Eden Project
the domes / los invernaderos And so another year has passed and Easter is back... last year was Scotland and this year is Cornwall, another corner of this beautiful country in which we live on and that I have never seen before (Dax was there about 10 years ago as part of his 'tippelei'😉.
We left home aiming for Glastonbury, to visit the carpenters that were working with Dax all those 10 years ago... we drove and drove and drove and, suddenly, we were in Exeter... waaaay past Glastonbury. This can be explained by the fact that I was the one reading the map and I was looking at the wrong road!!!... how embarrassing!... and I was saying all the time "we're still far away, keep going"... until Dax saw a sign that said 5 miles to Exeter... I wasn't even looking at the signs... that's my map reading for you...
So we changed route again and decided to go, once again, to Dartmouth and meet Thomas, Daniella and Liz with their van there. This turned out to be quite nice and it would have been even better if we wouldn't have found Steve... a drunken character who was living in a
Eden Project
rubbish man / hombre de basura motorhome on the spot where we decided to spend the night.
He came to us as soon as we left the van really, offering- us all kinds of oils and incenses that will connect us with mother nature... in exchange for a beer.
Then he offered the 'praying pipe'... from the North American Natives... "it's not a 'Peace Pipe'" he said, "that's what the 'white man' calls it, I rather call it the Prayer Pipe"... I'm sorry Steve but... aren't you white??... I was a bit confused by him talking about the 'white man' as if he was orange instead... but I guess the alcohol was clouding his mind...
He confessed that he was an alcoholic and when we told him he shouldn't drink any more, he drank another of our beers... and then one of Thomas'... "I'm going to hand myself to the police tomorrow" he told us "I'm a wanted man for 'drunk and disorder'"... Oh!, that's good to know, thanks!
It was very difficult to get rid of him and we had to 'hide' in our van to make him go... only after he asked us many times to come to
his motor-home 'for coffee'... no thanks!
The next morning, fair enough, he started walking to town to hand himself to the police as we were having breakfast... only to come back a couple of hours later saying that they told him to 'come back tomorrow'... I guess he wasn't wanted that much.
We left Dartmouth for the Eden Project. A beautiful place where we sweated like pigs under the 'tropical biome'. A highlight was climbing to the platform on top of the dome, at about 50 mts from the floor... and 35 degrees! it was hot, hot, hot and I was relieved when we moved on to the 'Mediterranean biome', which was still warm, but not as humid.
It's not a cheap place, as it costs £23 p/person (half price for students, but I've left my student ID at home!!!!), but you get a whole year of free entry... if only it were a bit closer to home!
That night we meet Thomas, Dani and Liz again and we found the perfect place in front of a beautiful beach, with toilets and a great parking place... but then it started raining hard,
Eden Project
from the platform / desde la plataforma with strong winds. The four of us hide again in our van, while Liz was already sleeping in her basket... but it was getting very cold so we went to bed. After a shaky night, we woke up to an ugly gray morning.
We moved on and went to the Minack Theater, an outdoor (new) theater, which will have been very nice had it not been for the rain and wind again so we hurried around and run to the café to sample the local 'creamed tea', a treat that I absolutely love but it was a first for Thomas and Dani... TASTY!!
That night we went to a camping place, as Dani wanted a shower. It was freezing... so absolutely cold... I was wearing all my clothes and was wrapped in a blanket and was still freezing... have I said it was cold??... and then I got sick!... there was something wrong with my stomach and I was feeling as I was going to throw up, so I went to bed... fully dressed cause Dax was still outside the van and I couldn't stop shivering... after a couple of hours Dax came to
Eden Project
cleaning the domes / limpiando los invernaderos bed as well and it was much better... I actually spend a nice warm night... finally
The next day was still rainy and windy so we call it a day and decided to go back home; we figured there wasn't any point of staying longer when we were not having a great time... Cornwall is just a few hours away, so we settled upon coming back in summer!
Eden Project
from the platform / desde la plataforma carretera equivocada!...
¡no gracias!
¿he mencionado
