We had been blessed with pretty good weather for much of our time in France but the first few days of December brought a mixture of wind, rain and cold which made us think it was time to move further South into Spain. However, we enjoyed a last few days pottering around the Minerve and Corbieres regions stopping at a few FP wineries and an olive farm. The red wines from this region are particularly good and the local Limoux sparkling brut is as good as those from Champagne. Our last Sunday in France was of particular note as we visited the Cathar castle ruins of Lastours, followed by a Michelin starred cassoulet for lunch, followed by a visit to the majestic Cabrestine cave, a 250mt high cavern filled with amazing formations. By 13 December we ... read more

Well we knew it would take 21 hours to travel to valencia but nothing would prepare us for the journey we were about to do. Firstly we got a train from pisa to tourin to get the connecting train striaght to barcelona. however our train was 40 mins late which meant we missed the train. hearing there were no other trains we had to stay the night in tourin in a hotel. when we woke up we realised we would have to get a train at 9 o´clock at night. being impateint as always we decided there must be another way. after researching this we relised we could head to milan. but never guess what happened our train was late and yes we missed it. however we thought it we coaught a train to nice it ... read more

Neighbouring Gandia, we had read, was worth a visit so we jumped in the car and drove up the road for a gander. Of course, we forgot that no where is really worth a visit on a Sunday as everything is closed. Nevermind, we found a map at the closed tourist - quite a cool idea, it was touch screen behind some safety glass that allowed you to navigate the town and find out a bit about it before choosing what was worth further investigation. Apparently, not much, as although there was an old town, the info didn’t elaborate enough. So we grabbed a shot (of coffee) and the mandatory chocolate buttery pastry while locals ogled Kaspar, agreed on a direction, and walked. And wouldn’t you know it before very long we stumbled across the rather ... read more
