Thursday night bowling: Last Thursday we played a friendly game against a team from the division above us who also plays in the province of Galicia. They ended up beating us but I finally played good. Shot the ball better and was more productive. After the game 7 out of 10 of the guys all went bowling. We matched up white guys vs. black guys. It was really fun and provided us great trash talking. We played all night long for drinks and the winners (luckily my team) ran up some pretty big tabs. It was an absolute blast! After bowling we all went out to one of the discos and kept the party going. It was a good opportunity to get close with all the guys on the team! Friday: After getting home at around ... read more

Friday night, Jan. 23, we played against the third place team in the league at home here in Vigo. After our loss last week and 7 straight days of rain I was beginning to think that I brought some bad luck here with me. Luckily, we spanked the opposing team by almost 30 points and are now in sole position of second place in the league. I played around 17 minutes and had a sub-par to decent performance. I need to be more aggressive and play with less of a conscious and I will be good to go! A little dose of the San Diego attitude and I'll be perfect. But, winning the game was the most important thing and it provided us a with a reason to celebrate. After the game the majority of the ... read more

This week has been somewhat uneventful. We had our normal double days on Monday and Tuesday, followed by an early morning practice Wednesday. For the past two weeks myself, Tim Frost (the big guy) and Adrian Joseph (small forward from Virginia) go out for a huge lunch after our Wed. morning practice. Its almost like a celebration that the tough 2 and a half days of the week are over! But...while we are on this lunch issue, let me get specific. It is so awesome and what I look forward to it all week. We start with fresh bread and butter, followed by a huge salad with atun (tuna), huevos (eggs), etc. and then finish with a plate of chorizo or chicken or piaya or spanish rice and fish with fries and a drink. All this ... read more

Thursday the 15th we headed to Pamplona after a morning practice for what would be my first game. Pamplona is about an 8 hour bus ride from Vigo and is the city where they do the famous running of the bulls. The drive there was very scenic. The first few hours were huge mountains with clouds in all the crevices. It felt like we were driving in the sky. Then we went through a stretch where it was snowing and the mountains looked like you could ski on them. At the end it was completely flat and empty reminding me a lot of the drive from west texas back to Arlington. That was weird because I have never seen any place in Europe so bare. It is normally so crowded with old buildings here in Spain ... read more

This morning we had practice at 10:45 am and were done for the day. Afterwards I went to our big man's house, Tim Frost, to hang out and eat a home cooked meal. His wife is Finnish and lives with him here in Vigo. She was very polite and made us an awesome lunch. Salad, chicken, potatoes, etc. After Tim dropped me off I decided to go on a stroll. When you walk out of my apartment the gym is to the right. That is the only direction I have ever been, so I decided to hang a left and see what else Vigo had to offer. About a half a mile down I noticed the city started getting some life to it. There were shopping centers, nice stores, beautiful buildings and the main port. As ... read more

What a pleasant little city. Once again, we figured we could do this one on our own. Once again that's what we did. This time we were not disappointed. Being able to depart the ship on our own allowed us to have a little more leisurely or more active morning. This day we did not arrive in port until later. This gave Linda G and I a chance to do our morning stretch with James at 7:00 a.m. and then do a Spinning class at 8. I love spin but it was Linda's first time. She said she enjoyed it and really worked up a sweat. Then we could have breakfast before getting ready to go ashore. Tom, Linda G, Pam, Deanie & I met on the dock and walked across the bridge to start climbing ... read more

Well upon reaching Vigo, we were invited to teach english at company owned by our friend from Pueblo Ingles, Manuel. Although he required someone to work for 2-3 months, we trimmed it down to 4 weeks and a bit to fit our travels. So we are coming home a bit late, 4 weeks or so to accomodate for this change. I won´t go into details about our classes, but we teach 4 staff members who work for a company called Equantia. One part of the company deals with foerign trade, they offer advice to companies who want to sell their products internationally. They also offer advice to companies on Social corporate responsiblities and data protection software. We have been staying with a very nice spanish couple, Carmen and Amarlio who have been taking good care of ... read more
