On Wednesday morning at 5am, Emily and I left London for Barcelona. The flight went well and we made it easily into the city. We were starving so we went to McDonalds to eat right off. It was fun to go around the city and see some of the same places that Steve and I saw when we were there this summer.
We checked into our hostel, which was very nice. Some of our friends had told us to stay there, and we were glad that we had listened to them. After taking a quick nap, Emily and I went out to explore the city. We walked along the beach and found a cute resturant to eat at. We had tapas and our first sangria! It was delicious. Then we played on the beach for a long while, but it was kind of chilly out. We walked about a mile down the beach and then headed home. It took us a while to walk back and we stopped for a snack along the way. For the rest of the night we just kind of hung out in our hostel and met people. We were both tired so we decided to
get to bed early.
The next morning we woke up early and got ready to explore the city. We first went to KFC for breakfast (I know its bad, but its cheap), and then we found our way to la Segrada Familia. It was absolutely breath taking. The architecture and planning that was put into this beautiful building was just crazy. We spent about two hours just exploring the inside of the building and looking through the museum. Gaudi tried to make the inside have a feel of a forest, and it worked. All the pillars lead up to beautiful stained glass on the roof. Although the building is still being worked on, it is still gorgeous. Emily and I then took the elevator to the top of one of the pillars. We had a great view of Barcelona and the beach. I was a bit scared, but I still was able to make it back down the stairs in the end.
After two quick snacks, Emily and I found a place where you could rent small go cars. It was a tiny car that had three wheels. I don't think that they were supposed to rent out
cars to Americans, but they did it anyways. Emily and I took turns driving, and it was one of the most terrifying things that I had ever done! We were in this small car and there were busses all around us and motorcyles passing us. We drove up the moutain where the Olympics were held a few years ago, and the view was amazing. The worst part was going down the hills in the cars! It was great fun to see the city by car, and it was one of the crazyest things that I have ever experinced.
Emily and I then went back to Las Ramblas (the main street which we were staying on) and got pallea to eat. We sat outside and people watched for a while, which was very interesting. We then went to a bar which our friends had told us about that was very cheap. They had some crazy shots that they kept lighting on fire! It was fun just watching other people get drinks! Then, we went to the hostel and met up with some of our friends. The hostel brought all of us to this nice club on the beach, which was
sangria!
When we first got to Barcelona! also fun to go to.
The next morning we got up early again and had breakfast at the hostel. We then made our way to the beach and tanned for a while. I fell asleep, so my whole body right now is bright red. My allergies began to kick in so I left Emily and I went to go explore the city. After getting a bit lost, I found the Picasso museum. I spent about an hour just looking at all of his works that they had. I learned a lot, and I was amazed by how much his style changed over the years, and how the cities that he lived in influenced that. I then looked at some different art around town before meeting back up with Emily. We had our last pallea and sangria before heading to the airport!
The way home went easily, but we didn't get back until 3am yesterday. Now, I am trying to get everything done before tomorrow! I am so excited for the rest of my travels, but I am also excited for everyone to be back in town again for May! Its so weird to feel like you want to
travel, but at the same time you miss everyone that you are studying with!

Barcelona
If you were talking to me about KFC, it is okay. I actually went to McDonalds for breakfast this week in a hurry. The horror! The trip to Barcelona looks awesome and can't wait to get tips from you.
