While the girls headed to Paris I, Greg, went to meet some like-minded military history buffs in Spain. We were there for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Salamanca. This victory over the French by the British Peninsular Army led by the Duke of Wellington resulted in the liberation of Madrid, and over the next year the liberation of Spain from France. 200 people from Britain, France, Portugal and Spain reinacted the battle in full uniform. Also involved, because it was the 200th anniversary, were modern day British and Spanish army units who coped with the heat less well than the reinacters in their authentic woolen uniforms! I coped with the rapid temperature increase to mid 30's by drinking litres of water, something my family still hasn't worked out!
