so yea, i have a huge headache and don't really feel like writing a lot, but at least there's some pictures for you all to see.
its funny how as i type this i keep wanting to start typing certain things in spanish, which in reality is awesome and means that i'm going to speak 'de la puta madre' - that is to say, awesomely.
so we went to saint sebastian and it was immediately apparent that we were going to like that city the best. getting off to bus we basically followed a sign that said 'centro' and, as luck would have it, the first pension we checked had a room for 5 people for 20 euros a person per night. so yea, that night one of the guys we met in santander joined us, and he took us to this club right on the beach, where we spent most of our evening.
the next day we got up and decided to have a delicious meal somewhere, so we looked in the lonely planet book and found a really cheap place really popular with the locals. the book didn't lie, as it was packed. but yea, for
moviestars?
part of the building in which the San Sebastian film festival was going on 8 euros i got a salad with smoked salmon for my plato primero, chiriones (squid in its own ink) for my segundo, and then arroz con leche for dessert. gooood deal, and quite scrumptious.
next we spent a few hours at the beach, which was pretty empty and quite gorgeous. luckily it was still warm enough to do that sort of thing. right off the beach is the big building in which the world-renowned Saint Sebastian film festival is held. It was actually going on as we were there, but we didn't see anyone famous. I did, however, run into a kid i went to grade school and high school with - Frank Callero - as he walked by the cafe i was sitting in stuffing my face with a pastry.
anyway, that evening we hit up the supermarket Lidl to buy meats and cheeses and such for our floor picnic. we were disgustingly full after that, but we still had to go out, so we all showered and got ready and whatnot. we basically just botellón-ed ourselves into oblivion on the street. good times...
the next day began with delicious pastries, followed by us walking around
foood
quite the dinner spread - baguettes, lomo, chorizo, salami, brie, gouda, olives, peaches (rotten, lol) the city exhausted as hell. we went to see some cultural exhibit at this museum thing but it sucked. the coolest thing that happened was seeing a pro-basque independence march on the street. since it was our last night, we went out for some pintxos (tapas) to finish up our stay in basque country. i had some really good baby eels (gulas). the girls were poor and hence decided to share a loaf of bread with cream cheese and jelly, instead.
our overnight train back to madrid was shitty. i thought i was going to burst into flames because of the heat, and the next day my whole body was sore from the poor excuse for a bad i ¨slept¨ on. 6 of us (we had a friend from Venezuela in our car with us) were crammed as if we were headed to auschwitz.
and thats about it for now. next weekend, since we have a break, we´re going to Granada and Cordoba. i wish i had a camera *cough* *cough*
also, for those that were inquiring, the 4 official languages of spain are Castellano (what we consider spanish), Euskara (Basque), Galego (similar to Portuguese), and Catalan
another night in spain...
darkness, benches, box wine...what more could on ask for? (also a Romance language
