That fountain is really gorgeous! PS- Julia Child lived at 28-A Quai de Rive Neuve, on the fifth floor of a pale-beige art-deco building with distinctive wave-patterned metal railings....or so says her auto-biography...wonder if you passed it and didn't even know

Jasset will also be glad you found la bière blonde d'Alsace, which, j'en suis sûr, kept him company many an evening. Have y'all been so fortunate as to find Desperados yet? ;-)

Best Food Pix Ever! - From: La Fira de San Ermengol
Between the olives & chicharrones your mother & I were near tears. I wouldn't blame you if you never came back home. What are you supposed to do with the half pig faces? Chew on them? Are they for human consumption? Great festival.

Loved the food photos! - From: La Fira de San Ermengol
Oh, what great food shots! I love the pig faces! Uncle Ray and I took photos of the food platters at our resort in Punta Cana but yours far surpass what we ate! At dinner one evening, while we were snapping photos of the food we were about to eat, we felt the stares of diners at surrounding tables. I proudly announced that we ALWAYS take food photos! We then saw flashes of cameras all around us as others did the same! Ii

The apartment looks great and even comes with a bidet - how European. I'll be curious how drying clothes on the line will work in the winter, but Busia dealt with it raising 4 children so I'm sure you'll manage. You may want to get some indoor collapsible clothes drying racks. The location seems perfect - well done!

Glad to hear that Andorran teenagers are as obnoxious as any other. Paulo suggesting to bring prostitutes to a picnic during your ice-breaker did make me laugh. As you get into your routine I expected you'd be reporting more about what you eat than anything else. You didn't disappoint. Pyrenees 2 sounds like a "cheese heaven". Put it on our sightseeing list. What a nice coincidence to have Kasia's cousin coming to Andorra. I'd suggest asking for Polish dried mushrooms or honey. You can make mushroom soup for your fellow Fulbrights. Save those newspaper clips for your mother. Good luck on the apartment. Love, Dad~

So this might be a little stalker-y but I'm applying for the Fulbright for next year and was looking online for info about the program and what not. Your blog has been REALLY helpful to continue to encourage me to apply! Would you be willing to email with me about some questions I have about Andorra and the logistics of the Fulbright? I know you probably are super busy and don't have a lot of time but I would really appreciate it! And as for the residency permit, consider yourself lucky you can get it that soon! In France I applied for it in Oct and didn't get it till Jan. Yeah, you heard me. Oh France and your ways, how I miss it :) That means we couldn't leave France except to go back to our own country in that time frame! And the pastis is cheaper in Andorra than in France, surprisingly. I hope all is going well! Kim

Hi Jeff. I enjoyed reading your travel stories. It reminds me of the ones I wrote on my travels with your mom to Disneyland. I too had to write about every minute detail. I can't imagine eating anything that you ate throughout your trip except for the donut and coffee at McDonald's. As you might have guessed, I am not a big gourmet. Remind me to tell you about Mike's experience with Paella. It was quite amusing. Have a great year in 'Angora'. I'll keep reading about your adventures.

What, No Piglet Ears? - From: Benvinguts a Valencia!
Valencia looks beautiful & brought back memories of our trip to Spain with you. Glad to hear you survived (barely) your first shower. The balcony view is gorgeous especially at night. I laughed at your "Vivan Iberian Romance Tongues!" comment - our son the linguist. The Basilica i Santa Iglesias looks like a former Temple. Your mention of "squid in ink" reminded us of the other dish we tried in Madrid, "the piglet ears". My recollection is it tasted vile. Hope the squid was better. Be nice to Chris. Love, Mom & Dad~

Another night in Beautiful downtown B town. - From: Wow! It's like I never even left the country!
While I spent most of Saturday afternoon fielding updates from you while trying to finish preparing our aioli supper with Mary Jane & Uli, I wasn't really hopeful that you'd get out Saturday night. After flying almost every week for the last two years I didn't have the heart to say what you were up against. Not losing your temper with airline personnel is still the best advice I could give you, coupled with knowing your rights when a flight is cancelled. The absence of a bus ticket to Andorra was a concern to me based on Spain's visa requirements. It may have been a small price to pay & a relatively minor inconvenience to be delayed a day. You can get your bus ticket & avoid detention problems. Also on the up side Air France is a much nicer airline so the all in all I'd say you did OK as long you you get out of Boston tonight. I look forward to your "I've landed & am out of customs" text when you arrive in Paris. Love, Dad~

This is a part of Spain I don't know much about with the exception of Basque terrorists movement. I didn't know there were two other co-official languages in Spain. What are the third & fourth languages? The Guggenheim Museum's architecture is beautiful - typical Gehry. In the one shot of the museum from down the street, the roof is reminiscent of the Pritzker Oudoor Music Pavilion in Millenium Park in Chicago. Anyway, glad to see pictures returning to your travel blog. Travel safe.

It's so good to hear that you're safe and happy. Miss you; you've been gone so long! Went to my hairdresser yesterday and saw some photos from her trip to Poland. She and her family posed in front of a familiar mountain; it was Morskie Oko! I was so excited that I knew where they were -- without really knowing where they were. How long will you be in Macedonia and where do you head next? I'm sending warrior angels to protect you!

Good Omen - From: oooooohrid!
I laughed out loud when I read that you found Fireking Peach Lustre cups & saucers in the china cabinet of the home. We all agree that it is definitely a good omen. I checked out the map to see exactly where Macedonia is relative to Bulgaria. I can't wait to see your photos since I'm fascinated by your descriptions of relatively obscure places that you find so beautiful. Glad to hear you talked to Mom today & that all is well.

Speaking of sticking to your seat with sweat, it's supposed to get to 100 degrees in NYC today. We got here late Saturday morning not realizing we'd miss the cool 95 degrees that greeted us. The monestary sounds incredible. Again, the description reminded me of the setting in a chapter of "The Historian". I would have loved to see a picture of the girls with torches shooting fire. It made me miss you! i know i must be high, jk i love you and miss you! here's dad! Well son, Rachel's right. That someone got Kasia to dress up in a belly dancing outfit makes me think that you both were in some hookah drug induced stupor. Either way it all sounds remarkable. Let's hope those pins you got do ward off the evil eye & not flag you both as tourists! You've convinced us to visit. Talk to you Monday. Dad~

Bullish on Istanbul - From: Heaven on Earth
OK, so I'm thinking Istanbul must be really nice, but "Heaven on Earth"? After reading the blog & seeing the photos I can begin to understand how anyone who has an interest in eastern culture could be seduced. Especially at the point where eastern culture literally meets west. Your entire experience there seems incredible. The pictures remind me a little of the Muslim influences we saw in Cordoba & Seville in Spain. I've also decided to reread "The Historian" because it takes place almost everywhere that you've visited! You'll have amazing stories to tell when we get together again. Until then I'll miss you, but I'm so happy for you! Love, Dad~

Hi! Nice to hear from you and enjoy your postcards! Your bathroom stories remind me of when I was in Bosnia and, after being directed to the ladies' room, upon entering I thought someone took out the toilet. It was basically a hole in the ground with a chain hanging from the tank which was near the ceiling. The shower in our Bosnian hotel room worked well, until I stepped out and realized all the water I used came back up from the floor drain and flooded the floor. I do think your bathroom stories are better than mine. Stay safe. I love you.

Romancing Romania - From: Beautiful Brasov, with some hot castles on the side...
Jeff, I have to say you run into characters worthy of a novel (e.g.the "real" Maria). This update made me laugh more than usual - "a Bulgarian dagger into her cold Transylvanian heart..." sounded like something out of "the Historian". Sounds like you had a clearer view of the city from the tram than we did. You have to love a castle with a "hookah lounge". Alyssa would have found your bathroom accommodations interesting. There is definitely something different about Romania. Look forward to seeing pictures again & hearing from you in Istanbul.

Thanks for the BD call from Budapest. Nice guy to let you use his personal phone. These are some of your best pictures yet. Since you are doing the food tour of Eastern Europe you must stop at this fantastic cafe in Mala Strana for breakfast or lunch. At present, its name is escaping me, but take the first (or maybe the second) left after you cross the Charles Bridge, follow the road around until you see the most precious cafe is your entire life on the right. It should be across from an English university or something like that. The cappuccinos are fantastic as are the massive crepes (aka pancakes). I will post again once I figure out the name. I thiiiiiiiiiiiiink we are going to have to roll you back to BC come spring semester. But I wanted to tell you that I hope you are having a fantastic time, Boston is beautiful in the summer but clearly not as beautiful as Poland. Keep making your amazing entries, you. You're making my summer oh-so-much-more exciting, it feels like I'm traveling with you : )

Hello sweet Jeff....glad to hear that all is well in Poland. Still chillin with the family in Firenze before going to the motherland in a few days. I picked you up a little something in Praha -- yeah, I didnt really think about how I was going to get it to you between now and January. hmph. In other news, Ryan told me that he is going to propse to Krissy and I am supposed to find out what kind of ring she wants without spoiling the surprise. More details to follow. Ciao bello!

Considering travel writing as a career? - From: Dzien dobry, jeszcze raz od Krakowie!
Well Jeff despite Marian's photographic ineptness the photos you've posted are amazing. Seeing the Wawel, Sukiennica & Czestochowa brought back memories. You may recall I never got to Zakopane because of flooding & now I know what I missed. It is unbelievably beautiful. Mom & I are really enjoying your very descriptive updates & photos. I appreciate the effort you put into your blog. Take care of yourself & don't eat too much smalec! Love, Dad~

That means, I like to read your words. Anyways, this communication is absolutely amazing. I loved the photos (yes, Zakopane is beautiful) and laughed at all of your comments. It all sounds phenomenal. Please thank the pseudo-relatives for everything they are doing for you. I hope Krysia will do the same. Anxious to hear from you soon!!!!

Poland is more beautiful than I could have imagined! Your photos make me desire to plan a trip. Besides, your Uncle Ray always said he wanted to go to Poland -- at least that's before he realized he'd have to cross the Atlantic!

Great to see & hear from you! - From: Czesc od Krakowie!!!
Well son, your blog was worth waiting for. What great photos. Believe it or not I recognize many of the sites though my own visit was over 30 years ago. Krakow was my favorite city then & I hear it's only gotten better. I see you carry on the family tradition of taking photos of food. Please post a photo of any memorable & photogenic meal you encounter. I remember feeling spent after I visited Auchswitz. I understood afterwards why my cousin Grazyna couldn't go through it with us afterwards. You & Kasia look great. I'll look forward to your next post. Love you, Dad~

miss you - From: Czesc od Krakowie!!!
you look super cute!!! sometimes i worry about your safety, given how attractive you are. so yes im being a mom when i say this, but be careful and make good choices on your adventures, but also have loads and loads of fun. (esp watch out for unique hair colors, i will not stand for your getting caught up with a group of rainbowed haired poles(?) and returning with any color hair besides your God-given blonde locks)

DON'T GO! - From: Getting Ready To Leave...
I think the title pretty much explains it all... I can't believe your leaving already. And I can't believe I won't see you again until January. This saddens me immensely. Who will I get to watch make a drunken fool out of himself? I miss you terribly already!
