Majorca 3 We woke up today to an overcast sky and were expecting a poor day. However it was quite warm at 10 degrees when we set off on our bikes at 10 o'clock and the day improved as we made our way through Alcudia to Lluba for lunch. Again we encountered a large group of Team Sky riders going the opposite way and I thought I would take a photograph but with all the excitement all I took was a video of the Tarmac. I had to take a photo of a disused windmill instead. It was either that or another twisty gate. We passed along a very fertile plain which reminded me of Banks and Crossens near Southport growing potatoes, lettuce, beans and artichokes etc. We also passed some very variable ploughed land, some ... read more

Majorca January 2016 A week in Majorca in January is a nice choice when the Lancashire weather is doing its worst with cold, frost and rain. Majorca, which had rain three days before our arrival, greeted us with brilliant sunshine and temperatures in the mid teens. Nevertheless we needed long gloves and leggings, as you may expect in winter, but on several days we took off a layer and had fingerless gloves after our alfresco lunch in the town squares. The first three days found us doing a total of 150 miles heading out of Pollenca in the north of the island. Port de Pollenca is a nice seaside town with loads of excellent restaurants and cafes with shops selling everything you may need. Car and bike hire is a big thing here, as is selling ... read more

When I was trying to fall asleep on the first night in the hotel, only one thought was flying through my head, it couldn’t be as bad as it seemed right? Or could it? The flight itself wasn’t that bad, although it could’ve been very unpleasant – I really don’t mind the kids on the plane, but the amount of prams we were taking on board was slightly worrying, not to mention a few groups of young, loud guys, having started drinking and partying before we even took off… in this case I was actually happy that we were flying with Ryanair and there were no assigned seats so at least we could choose to sit as far away from the young shouting crowd as possible… If anyone was hoping to sleep on this flight, not ... read more

Just thought I would upload some photos. Weather finally came right today, hooray! Biked into Puerto Pollensa, a neighbouring town, and hunted out a few geocaches. We got abused by a peloton of scottish cyclists for being on the wrong side of the road. In our defence, it was confusing because we had just come off a dual-way cycle lane and nothing told us to revert back to the other side of the road. Oh well, it was quite amusing hearing thirty scots in lycra swearing at us while the zoomed past. We also found an awesome roman archaeological site to explore in Alcudia. Sitting in the sun on our balcony enjoying un cerveza at the moment. Enjoy the photos, a plethora more to come!! ... read more

Yesterday Claire and I walked to Alcudia old town. There is a beautiful old fort, in which the town is built. Tried my hand at speaking spanish with local shop assistants and managed to get a positive response, almost too positive. I seem to be able to trick people into thinking I speak a whole lot more spanish than I actually do. Quite awkward when they expand past my limited vocabulary and seek a response from me. Oh well, at least I'm trying. Oh, the weather is rubbish and I only brought one jersey... bugger. ... read more

Saturday was a sweat box in London! We had to lug our backpacks to Baker Street in order to catch the 'Easy Bus' to Stansted. Turns out our bus didn't turn up, but managed to get on the next one at 11am. The (mini) bus had no aircon so we we had to endure the heat for another hour. Took a Ryanair flight to Palma Mallorca which left me with the impression of a flying McDonalds restaurant. Took the resort hopper bus from Palma airport to Puerto Alcudia. Mallorca looks ruggedly beautiful, can't wait to explore. Managed to find Mallorcan vino for less than 3 euros... sweet. Beer is quite cheap too. Off to explore the Easter markets today. Apparently the spanish are into their religious festivals; who would have known? ... read more
