The Spanish part of my adventure starts in Santiago de Compostela, which is normally an ending for other people’s journeys. It is the destination for one of Christianity’s best-known pilgrimages. The end point is the Cathedral where St. James’ tomb is placed. You can line up for half an hour to see the actual tomb and also hug/touch/pray all over the head of a large statue, which I am going to guess is also of St. James. Whilst in the line you can take in all of the gold gilding on the roof, which was unfortunately largely obscured by restoration works. You can also play the game with the short European ladies who think they can smile and walk straight past you in a line. A mother/daughter combo tried to tag team me, but I kept ... read more

After yesterday not sure it could get any better. I did suffer the worst B & B of the trip though, no heat, no Wi Fi no TV, freezing cold, drafty and I could reach each wall with my wing span, making the room just about 6'6" wide, Tiny room. I had to heat the place up with an ancient hair dryer. The walk, however is a copy of yesterday. Along the coast with ocean views all the way. The Camino wonders on and off a highway that is virtually unused. There are two major highways running Parallel to the road by the Camino, making the road devoid of all cars except a few locals and farm equipment. The Camino take me down to a playa that would be impossible to get to except on foot, ... read more

Rather than taking the road Cathy fancied taking the paved footpath down to the town. Big mistake. It was 1 in 3, included steps & hairpins – brakes on overtime & Cathy very scared but we made it. Had a mooch about & went into a bank to change money but they required a passport which we didn’t have. There’s a narrow ‘promenade’ around the bay which I cycled around passing an old chap drying himself off after a swim..in the Atlantic...in March. Without me realising it Cathy ... read more

26th March After a long, good night’s sleep we woke at 7.30 thinking it was 5.30 as it was so dark. It was just a huge storm cloud that thankfully passed us by. Cathy much better but tired & achy after being ill & prostrate for so long. Sorted ourselves out, paid the bill & set off for Luarca an hour or so West along the coast. We were going to drop in at the supermarket but discovered they all close on a Sunday. The road again was smashing going over viaduct after viaduct & a few tunnels thrown in. I’d read that this site was pretty & the local town nearby of Luarca is probably the nicest little port on this coast so was looking forward to the stay. Arrived at the site which is ... read more
