I don't think Tommy was happy getting his picture taken here, but this is the high-speed train from Madrid to Sevilla. Very civilized!
We have finally landed in Sevilla. We arrived here on Saturday from Madrid by way off AVE, the high-speed train. A very comfortable 150 minute trip, and much better than flying.

Our first two night were spent in an awful hostel; it was the end of the week-long Feria, Sevilla's annual blow-out party, and we were lucky to find any place to sleep. As is was, we paid a ridiculous amount to sleep in one tiny room crammed with five uncomfortable beds (ok, four uncomfortable beds, mine was actually pretty good). There was hardly enough floor space to put our suitcases down. And the noise from the street below ... ugh. We did survive, however, and on Sunday we were able to visit the Feria with our friends Maleni and John. Maleni grew up in Sevilla, and met our friend Lori Ahl when Lori was a student here. Maleni met John in the states, and after many years there last year they moved back to Seville. Anyway, there were our entree to one of the casetas, as the private tents at the Feria are known. As Angie described it, Feria is like the Minnesota state fair with lots of

private tailgaters that last for seven days. We had a great time: Keenan was dressed in her finest Flamenco costume and danced like a native.

Yesterday we moved to the apartment where we will be staying for the next six weeks, and it is beautiful (and less expensive per night than that god-awful hostel). We are about a half mile from the Cathedral. We can walk whereever we want, and there is a rooftop terrace with great view.

The kids start school tomorrow, which will be a major change: they will have some structure and interaction with other kids, and Angie and I will not be on 24-hour per day "what do we do next to entertain the kids" duty. Right after I drop them at the school bus, I will be looking for that English language book store here in Seville.

Its getting late here, so I'll wrap up here, but suffice to say that I should have more time in the near future for updates. Ciao!

Maleni and John have two kids, Anthony and Anna, and they are now our kids best friends because they know all the good swear words in Spanish!

The Alcazaba was built by the Christian King in the 1200s but modeled on the Alahambra built by the Moslems in Granada in the 900s. Fabulous!

I think this was actually in Madrid, but who can tell . . .
