Back Home Europe » Italy » Rome By The Conleys June 29th 2007 The Conley Family Well, we arrived home back in Minnesota last week, but feel compelled to add one last entry to post some of our pictures from our adventures with the Taiclets in Venice and Rome. The kids were, of course, thrilled to get home to see all of their friends. Some of our gre [View Full Entry]

Leaving Spain Europe » Spain
The other night over dinner, just before we were to leave Spain for Italy, we asked the kids to help us make a list of what they would most miss about Spain (i.e. the best things) and what they would not miss at all (the worst things). Here, in the order in which they were mentioned and with only minimal editorial embellishment, is out list: What we’ll miss: topless beaches; Serrano ham; siestas; sangria before the siestas; paella; drinking wine with lunch; all of the flowers; the beaches; the mountains; friends; finding garnets at the dormant volcano; the double kiss [View Full Entry]

The surfers

A week in Roquetas and we sailed on to America’s Cup! We enjoyed another fabulous week at Comunicacion, the wonderful language school in Roquetas de Mar. Tommy graduated to adult classes while Ryan, Keenan and I continued with private lessons. I think I finally have a grasp on those 4 past verb tenses, only to find myself leaving Spain! We all have made a lot of progress on our Spanish and hope to find some meaningful way to keep it up when we return. We had some good hang out time with our friends Graeme, Sarah, Leo and Sophie during [View Full Entry]

The trophy

We are back in Roquetas de Mar, on the Southeastern coast of Spain. We left Sevilla on Sunday with Stella, Stefan and our Argentine landlord waving goodbye. It is about a 4 hour drive past Granada and up over a mountain pass that is 1,300 meters (about a mile) high. There is still a fair amount of snow in the Sierra. The east side of the mountains are very dry, and as you descend towards Almeria they become even drier and rockier. (Apparently a number of spaghetti westerns were filmed in that area in the 1940s.) We were able to move [View Full Entry]

Angie's Update Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Seville
Life has certainly been an adventure during the last two months . we’ve climbed towers, mountains and seen castles, and stumbled a few times along the way. This past month in Sevilla I have been in an intensive language program at a school named Clic. It has provided a wonderful sense of community and I’ve met so many interesting people. My head is spinning with all the grammar we are studying: the four past tenses, por/para, ser/estar, future, conditional… yikes! When you gain a little knowledge, you often realize how much you have yet to learn! My two closest friends [View Full Entry]

A busy weekend Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Seville
One of our regular readers, who for purposes of privacy shall be identified only as “RV”, a law professor in Minneapolis who lives at the corner of 53rd and Logan with his 3 daughters and lovely wife, has written to us suggesting that we have not been posting enough to the blog recently. You would think that RV, who recently earned tenure, might have more important things to worry about than the volume of material posted by your humble blogger. Perhaps the administration at RV’s university should wonder whether RV is perhaps slacking off just a bit too much this [View Full Entry]

Champions! Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Seville
I know that it is old news to most of you ardent fans, but Sevilla FC won the UEFA cup championship last night in Scotland! (For the handful of you who don't know, the UEFA Cup is a football (soccer in the U.S.) competition for European club teams. It is the second most important international competition after the UEFA Champions League. Clubs qualify for the UEFA Cup based on their performance in national leagues and national cup competitions.) This is the second year in a row that Sevilla has won the cup. Its opponent this year was another Spanish team, Espanyol [View Full Entry]

Keenan recently responded to a friend's email, so I thought I would share that with all of you to let you know how she is doing. First is her friend's email: > > > > > >Dear Keenan: > > > >What did the Eiffel Tower look like inside? Is the Eiffel Tower as big > >as your house? Did you do any plays in your school?
