"So we had a long drive to Slovenia. It was my 59th country! We went to this cave that was pretty cool that people discovered a long time ago. It had an amazing view of a waterfall. There was all these rocks and things hanging from the top of the caves - I forgot the names. Then we went to a cool castle. It looked like it was part of the mountain which was very cool. It was kind of like a museum. There were fake people doing a lot of stuff. There was room with torture which was very weird. There was one thing like a horsey and sharp on the top and put weights on your feet so you split in half. Very tortury. My grandma Anita was here with my mom and dad and we took pictures at this window that Avo Anita took pictures at too. So it was called "Anita's window". There was a room like a church and Vitor pretended to ask for forgiveness for all that he has done to me. Ba-boosh. Then we went to this other cave museum. We saw all these cave creatures, but the one that was the most famous was Proteus. So, Proteus has 2 fingers on each hand in the front and 3 toes on each foot in the back. They are blind creatures. They can not eat for 10 years or 1 decade. So it does not poop much. I know, I know.

It was beautiful and cool. We had a guide to show us around. There was a very cool bridge that was built by the Russians and we walked across it. We don't have any pictures in the cave because there were no pictures allowed. There were these things on top of the caves that my brother calls bacon. I think they look like bacon, but the guide called them curtains. There were also things on the top which were called Spaghetti things which were very cool" - Sofia Daddy's Comments:
Breakfast and a quick goodbye to Nicola and Mara and family but we were to return in 3 days. Time to go back to one of my favorite European countries, Slovenia. Little over
Proteus
The Human Fish 1 hour to the border and we were there. Not off to a good start as we got pulled over at a tool booth by police for not buying a sticker for the car at the border. Supposedly there were signs. The police officer was nice to me, probably due to having the kids, but only charged us the $20-30 bucks for the sticker while he said he was charging the car in front the enter 100-200Euro fee. (After incident in Austria a few days later, I believe....) We still made it to
Skocjan Caves by 1000am. There was only 1 other person with us on our tour. We took a cool tram down a hill and then entered. They were doing some "remodeling" so we were not able to enter at the normal place. It was really a great experience (even the 2nd time) and seeing the rivers from the caves and all the stalagmites/stalactites were great and Vitor and Sofia really liked it.
Our next stop was to Prejdama castle. We have been to a lot of castles all over Europe and this is one of my favorites (Sofia's too) Maybe the ones in Romania and some in
Germany might be better, but how this one was made into the mountain was an incredible site. We had a lot of fun walking around the castle and checking out the rooms. We had a lot of fun taking pictures at the windows, which we called Anita Windows as their grandma loved those windows as well.

Final attraction of the day were the
caves of Postojna . We first went to the museum. It was a lot of fun and most of the animals we saw were small little insects but the highlight was of course, Proteus, also known as "the human fish" though it is actually an amphibian. It can live for a century and can go without eating for a decade. Only found in certain caves. Oh, and it has no eyes.
While Proteus was cool, the caves were out of this world. An awesome train ride through the cave felt like Disneyland, except it was real. Sofia loved it. I was not allowed to take pictures and both Sofia and our tour guide were very strict about that, but I did take a fast video before I found out that that
too was not permitted.....ooops. The caves were magnificent and the 3 of us had a blast. Definitely the highlight of the day. It was immense and the cave formations fascinating. We all loved the spaghetti Stalactites and some of the stalagmites were huge. Awesome.

Then a drive to our hotel was less than 2 hours with both Vitor and Sofia falling asleep. No time to stop in Ljubljana, which was not on the plans anyway. We needed a good night sleep - skiing and snowboarding the next day......
