Bled

Bled on a sunny day is one of the most picturesque places you could hope to see with its vivid blue lake surrounded by craggy mountains, castle on top of a large rock bluff and island surmounted with a beautiful church. It was a fitting finale to this trip.

Our day consisted of a walk along the quiet north shore; a climb up to the castle; a sandwich lunch sitting under the shade of an overhanging tree right next to the lake; a trip to the island in one of the two oared stretched gondolas called pletnas with a boatman who didn’t break sweat whilst rowing 13 of us in the burning sun; a ride on a motorised train to complete our circumnavigation of the lake; and finally a swim to cool us off after all our exertions on the hottest day we have had.

Tomorrow we do some serious driving across Austria and Germany on our way home.
