My beach
in such a good chilled out mood here, beautiful day, beautiful surf... and a grin from ear to ear =) Tim Version:
* Bussed to Sagres and chilled out and surfed, enjoying the tranquility and beauty.
* Enjoyed a good fresh fish dinner, nightime beach feed, and drinking way too much with the fellow surfers.
LongButNotAsLongAsLastTime version (Ill try anyway....)
... so, 45 sleep mins later I make it to the bus in time to get to Sagres (via Lagos). Why sleep 45 minutes? I dunno, I shoulda just stayed up! 45 mins sleep just makes ya feel odd, especially when your body is crying for more.
It takes about 5 and a half hours in two busses to get down to Sagres and it is worth every bit of it! I passed through Lagos having a look but the cheesy drunken British and Aussie side of the place just turned me right off so I skipped that shit and went straight for the gold that was Sagres. A pretty sleepy feeling small beach town, it was an el natural recharge and a good slow down the first night. We (it was Nancy and I doing this trek btw for a reminder) also had wicked luck as we had no accomodation researched down there and a lady met
us off the bus offering some home stay stuff and the room we got was wicked and so comfy. We also met a couple who also just arrived and we ended up having dinner and talking for hours with them, very very good company. We booked up some surfing before dinner too, which again pointed out how badly addicted to it I am as it almost gave me butterflies in the stomach thinking that Id get to hit the water soon!!
A full nights sleep later, probably equalling all the sleep ive had on the trip so far, we head out with the surf crew, grab the boards from their shop, and they take us out through dirt paths and all sortsa stuff to this cool little surf spot you'll see on the photos below... to say I was sitting on a cloud happyness wise when we got there is a serious underestimate. Im so addicted to the coast and surf areas it probably isnt healthy. I got me a 6'4 fish board, and the waves just crumbled! None of this scarborough close out every time and barrel in a bad way when big, just smooth crumbling waves almost
Storm setting in...
We got some rain towards the end as some bad weather rolled in, but with the cliffs and look of the land it was pretty spectacular longboarding in style. Its a kind small enclosed cliff area too, giving you awesome reference points to hold your position in the lineup. Heh I went with Nancy and did the learning to surf basics too which was funny as, learning how to paddle and stand up and shit, felt pretty goofy when you already know how to do it all... once out though we surfed all day until the energy levels got too low and before hyperthermia set in (the ocean there is icey as!!). Not much to describe but the crew of people we headed out with really made the day awesome, so enjoyable, and so needed on my part...
Thought ahhh, what a healthy day! Didnt drink too much last night (2 bottles of wine and some beer between 4 of us), and had a reeeal healthy day and didnt plan on drinking so was thinkin wow, thats pretty good, im kinda proud of myself for that! Then we got the invite to drink with the other surfers... heh so it was back on again. Enjoyed a chilled backpacker style dinner of crackers and random vegies with Nancy on a towel on the beach at night,
including some deserts we bought kinda outta guilt coz we used a local restaurants bottle opener to get the wine open, then on to drinking... They had some local looking liquor which was rocket fuel, plus 57% absynth, plus so so tasty brown Havanna Cuban rum. That stuff is the shit aye! some British guy from the surf thing was shouting drinks and I dont remember going to bed but yeh, I missed my morning bus!
I remember nancy getting up and getting ready, but it coulda been a dream for all I knew, and I felt like shit so was going nowhere (this was a 6am start by the way). Man she had some willpower getting up and goin so my hat goes off to her for that... didnt get to do a proper goodbye but thats cool, will hafta go say hello to her in NY some day when my contracting software engineering business gets so big that I can list it and I get to open the Stock Exchange for a day over there (it is in NY right? Meh, I cbf checking....). Ended up catchin the 10:30 bus back and found once again that Im
Beautiful
This beach had a fairly big wash-in area, leaving much of the sand near the water combed into perfect no big fan of Lagos and just kept on going back to Lisbon and back to my Oasis again. remainder of the day can be the next blog yeh? That sound OK? I can see your eyes gettin tired reading at this point... just go get a coffe or something, '´sleep is for the weak' as Stubert would say.
