Day 27: Clear skies: We travelled with this bus line so try them - note dates of travel though.

We had a wonderful 9 hour bus trip from Rovaniemi to Tromso, through beautiful scenery of villages, real reindeer, snow capped mountains, partially frozen countryside of rivers and lakes. In Tromso we had booked into Hotel Ami up the hill with views over the town and harbour.

Day 28: Saturday 3rd. June: Sunny then cloudy with a few drops of rain: Brekky included here and it was really good with a variety of fish and fish pastes amongst the most perfect boiled eggs you could get anywhere. When one is in another country, one tries the local food - not Vera though. I tried some of the herring - not bad - and some of the pastes - a little taste only and that was enough. Some spice leaves the most foul taste in the mouth for ages.
Tromso is a lovely fishing village so hopped on a tourist tram that took us around the city sights. After lunch we walked across the long bridge that rises in the middle to let the boats through, to the Arctic Cathedral before climbing higher up the mountain side to where the cable car started. Up on the cable car to the top for a magnificent view over the whole area. On our way home we stopped at the Arctic Cathedral to look inside. The walls are mainly glass so being able to look through, it appears not to have any walls. The orchestra was playing heavy music (recital) as orchestral concerts are performed at night for passengers from the ships that call in every day.

Day 29: Week 5: Sunday 4th. June: Mirky and rain clearing then cold: We met two people from Oslo who used to live here, the woman played the organ and they been invited to come for the cosecration of the church. They kindly drove us to the Botanic Gardens that are nothing like the tropical gardens we had seen before as this was an "Arctic" garden with arctic plants. We had a long walk back into town, to the Poalrium museum where we watched a film on an expedition to Spitzburgen using 5 video projections simultaneously on 5 screens. When the plane flew down the gorges and over glaciers it was like being there and feeling the real thing. Later the midnight sun was shining right down the waterway - stunning.

Rovaneimi to Tromso
Wonderful to read your journal entry. We are thinking of driving the 9hrs from Rovaneimi to Tromso and would love to know whether you think it would be worthwhile or should we take the bus. Wondering whether you were able to hop off the bus and visit Inari or Muonio or Levi or if it was straight through. Would love to hear from you if you have time.

Rovaniemi to Tromso
The bus stopped along the way so there is no reason why you could not have a day at various places. The drive into Tromso was beautiful, scenery magnificent, roads twisting and wet, and had I had a car, would have stopped a day or so out of Tromso.
