Marken is a fishing community slightly northeast of Amsterdam, a quaint little town with cute wooden houses, a few shops, and a few restaurants. One of these restaurants serve typical Dutch pancakes, which perfectly suit our needs for lunch, so we sit down at a table overlooking the marina. Ordering goes smoothly, as does the execution of the order. It’s towards the end of the meal that things take an interesting turn. A waiter – a boy, probably in his mid-teens – has been given the task of bringing a tray with beer to a table outside. There’s a small staircase connecting the restaurant with the street. Ok... again, where do i start? This morning kicked off at 7am, hungover, on 3 hours of sleep! we left out hostel around 8am, only to find out that the entire city was still in a deep slumber from last nights festivities. We made our way to breakfast and ate eggs and toast before our whole day tour. When we got to where our tour took off, we found our seats on the double decker bus. Our first stop was at the Windmunlen Windmills. Here, they also make dutch wooden clogs by hand. The clogs were colorful and it was definately worth seeing the hott clog maker boy make the clogs haha... Our next stop was a family owned cheese factory. so everyone today was my last day of actually doing stuff..I think haha..I may take a walk to the local mall but no more adventures for me this time around in Holland. So today Gerard Martie and I went to Marken this little village on an island. We had a little bite to eat in a small cafe and enjoyed the nice sunny day. Then we headed to a REAL MILL!! Man that was so super cool. I actually got to go inside a working water mill. I took so many pictures of it I just can't stop talking about how neat it was haha. From Haarlem we drove across to Marken. Trying to get onto the A10 was surprisingly difficult, having to make several loops around Zaandam (Zanstad)...... read more
