It took about 5 hours to get from Paris to Deurne. It could have taken a lot longer if I had not realised that I had initially entered "Duerne" into the GPS, which is a town in France. Luckily I noticed my mistake, oh I also noticed there is a Deurne in Belgium - we found the one in the Netherlands with no problems. We got to spend a few days with Lorenza's cousin, Guido and his family. Lorenza really enjoyed catching up with Guido and her Aunties and Uncle. It was the first time we had spent much time with Guido's dad and it was good to get to know him a bit. He had some interesting stories about growing up during the war around Deurne and also in Indonesia and some funny tales about ... read more

After 54 days travelling back home again. Getting used to normal life. This kind of trip has been made by people you meet. I remember still a lot of people I did not write about in the blog : - Like the dutch businessman in Thailand I met , living in Changmai, coming 15 years ago for 3 months to Thailand and stayed. Has a wholesale organisation for restaurants in the North of Thailand. Helped a dutch company out 12 years ago who thought to be able to change lifestyle in Thailand. Thais eat outside and hardly at home. This company wanted to change that. Built chickenfarms and processing factories for easy to prepare food for in house. It failed. But they were selling a lot to the dutch wholesaler, who exported the products to...... the ... read more

My trip to Singapore took over 500 hours train. Back a bit shorter. 2 hours SP/ BK and 11,5 hours BK/Amsterdam. Last night I boarded the flight CI065 and because I still had still some points to spent I flew decadently , compared to all the simple trains, in the businessclass. A bit confusing, too fast , too luxurious. Plane was not full as is usual these days. Businessclass not even half full incl 2 english guys, about 50 years old, rather drunk from the free cognacs in the China airlines lounge and one of them almost 100% tatooed. He showed it in the plane by sitting not only in shorts but also by sitting without his T shirt. An asian crew don t know how to handle this kind of bad behavior. So he fell ... read more

So I've only been here for 3 days and it feels like I've been here for a month. We have to bike to class. That sounds great, but school is over 4 miles away. Every morning we get up at 7, get ready, eat breakfast, and bike 4 miles. It's flat here so it wouldn't be much of a problem, but the bicycle seats are unbelievably bad. My butt hurts so bad that I think there should be visible bruising. It even hurts to sit in a chair. I think that I need one of those inflatable donuts. Hmm...maybe my neck pillow from the plane will work? Besides the awful pain of the bicycle seat, we get lost every morning on the way to class. In fairness, we've only biked to class twice, but we've taken ... read more

Last night was interesting at the Hotel Flipper but we mostly slept. We slept until around 5am and then we couldn't sleep anymore. We got up and showered and went out to breakfast. The room was small and there were only about 5 tables, but there still managed to be 3-4 languages going on. The hotel owners speak Chinese, we speak English, and there were French people behind us. They had a little girl who was about 3 and was yelling in French. Adorable. We decided to stuff ourselves because finding food that is cheap is kinda hard. We took a tram to Centraal Station and then tried to find a train to the airport. A train pulled up and we didn't know if it was the right one so I asked people who were getting ... read more

Ponovo Holandija. Tilburg.

Made today my e mails to people who might be interested in the travelblog and got a lot of reactions. In short some facts about the trip. Travelling to Faro in the Algarven brings me as far as possible, by train, from Singapore. Totally it will be about 23.000 km . Crossing 13 countries over land . Only country without train seems to be Cambodia who had a connection Phnom Penh- Battambang recently but is out of order since a few months. The connection was only on saturday so by not using it I solved also some problems of waiting or hurrying. Need 9 visa . 6 already in the passport and 3 to get stamps at the borders in some Asian countries There will be 15 nights spending in trains and using 22 different hotels. ... read more
