Hello my fellow travellers! Okay, I have to admit that our itinerary didn't end up exactly like the one we had yesterday. We started this day with a steady continental breakfast at the hotel before we hopped on a bus to Valletta, this time however we got off at the Bombes Gate instead, it's a pretty nice ornamental gate in the old Florian defensive line and it's worth a closer look. From there we went and took a look at the small Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and the Spencer Monument that both stand a little further down by the road. Our path next took us by the Lion Fountain and the statue of Florian to the stunning Saint Publius's Church, which was unfortunately closed so we'll come back another day. Oh, if you're ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Me and my trusted brother-in-arms Marcus have arrived on a very hot Malta where we began our journey by getting off at the wrong bus-stop which meant a bit of walking around before we finally came to our hotel, Kappara in San Gwann, a small but bustling city with about 13.000 citizens. It wasn't all bad though, our walkabout led us various through parts of the city and we saw the Mother of God Hospital and the University of Malta. Both of which are actually located in Msida, another small town with a few thousand citizens. They are so close to each other that I'm not sure where one ends and the other begins! At the airport we bought a 7 day bus card, it's only 6.5 EUR which is a good ... read more

Our 6th day was an "at sea" day...good for sleeping in, lounging around, meeting people, visiting the casino, watching the shows. Our 7th day would be Malta. We had very limited knowledge of Malta before arriving. We knew that it is a very small island country situated west of Tunisia (Africa), north of Libya, and south of Sicily. I knew that it had been an important naval station during the world wars, and that it contained several world heritage sites. Upon arriving, we noticed just how fortified the city was. There were steep, tall, deep walls all around the harbor. The city looked very well taken care of also. This was one of the few stops we hadn't planned an organized excursion, so we walked around the port for a while, and bought tickets to one ... read more

I went to Malta with my mom because there's a place you can swimming with the dolphins. That's always been our dream, since I was little I fell in love with those so intelligent and gentle animals. My mom always gave me presents of dolphins, stuffed, key rings, earings....then when I was 18 I got my first tattoo of a dolphin of course! So when I had the oportunity I took her to the trip of her dreams. See how happy she was, was the best thing ever happened to me. It was great and Malta is a cute city, it's not big and amazing but it's Ok to spent a weekend and the beaches are great!... read more

As soon as I landed in Malta, the relaxing, slow way of life hits you at the airport. Everyone is friendly and nobody is in a mad rush to run you over at the passport counter. The warm air and breezes are relaxing right away, and it just makes you want to run for the water. Right from the first minutes, Malta was inviting. The taxi drive into town took 15 minutes, and the driver was able to joke and tell stories the entire ride. I get dropped off at the hotel near Valletta, and it is great! 3 pools, diving shop at the hotel, 4 restaraunts. Awsome! First thing is first, and after check in, its time to hit the pool and figure out what the adjenda is. Tomorrow is sailing to a small island ... read more

Hey guys! Here's my little travel blog for my latest trip to Malta, where I met up with four of my Erasmus friends from Germany last year - Daniel from Malta, Amalie from Denmark, Camilla from Sweden and Onur from Turkey. The trip had been planned for almost a year, and eventually lasted just over a week, with the girls arriving early on Monday morning, before me and Onur arrived on the Tuesday. Until the Sunday we were staying in an apartment in Buġibba, and it was here that I met the guys for the first time in months! Once we had all arrived we took the long bus ride from one side of the country to the other (lasting a massive 10 minutes) to join a beach barbeque for Daniel's friend's birthday. It was here ... read more

It took me a while to come to terms that I will was leaving my friends and loved ones. I had been wanting to travel the world for the past 8 years but at the ripe old age of 29 I was mentally and financially ready to take the leap. So I quit my amazing job, purchased my tickets and before I knew it I was on my way to Australia. Two nights before my departure I held a going away party which turned out to be quite boozy and emotional ... not the smartest of combinations. But I can surely say that I don't regret it one bit. I got to see friends whom I had not seen in a while and got to spend my last few hours with the people I love the ... read more

Sitting in my 3rdform Social Studies class at my college listen to my teacher ramble on about her favourite place in the world was not the highlight of my college education, but from then on Malta has always been in the back of my mind. Why we did a 3 week study on a tiny Mediterranean island, thousands of miles away from New Zealand was beyond my 12 year old brain. Seven years later though I find myself on this exact island, falling in love with it, just as much as my teacher had done all those years ago. Malta is an incredible place in the way that it has a very strong character but it also draws influence in from other countries and cultures. The language is a mix of what sounds like Italian and ... read more

By Laurent Rueff “Merhba! How are you guys? Its good to see you again!” That is the sound that resonates all over the place when some of my Erasmus-friends and I are entering our local pub called “Band Club” situated in the quaint town of Balzan in the middle of Malta. The warm-hearted gestures and kindness offered to everyone, not just in Band Club but also around the entire island is simply impressive. While we Swiss usually react reservedly to anything or anyone new, the Maltese culture opens up itself for everything and everyone. On this small and uniquely placed island situated between Europe and Africa which seems to represents more nations than the football world cup, there is an amazing sense of cosmopolitanism due to the diversity in cultures without any sense of racism. Of ... read more
