rural denmark
Hi everyone! Been a little while since the last update, but it has been incredibly difficult to come by internet cafe's in rural poland. Since the last blog we had a small accident with our lovely little corsa. Drove into a restircted area in Schwerin in germany, an automatic bollard came up out of the ground and smashed the front end and radiator. Paul was swearing and i was almost crying. But luckily a nice young german man, Gerhard, was passing by who happened to be a mechanic and offered to fix it for us that night! Saved! It was a [View Full Entry]

Trakai
Just 28km from Vilnius lies this lake with a Castel on an Island it was fantastic..
From Latvia I moved south to Lithuania, first stop was Vilnius. I found Vilnius to be a very clean and assesable. It was also the turing point of the weather. The snow started to stop you could tell cause every one was starting to creep out of their houses for the first time. I spent a few days touring around seeing the sights and the museums then took a day trip to Trakai. Trakai is a small town on a lake with an unbelievable castle on an Island. You can see from the Photo I posted. Also what is a trip [View Full Entry]

Cathedral
When do you think this was built??

After Vilnius, I went to see one of the most inspiring sites in Lithuania: The Hill of Crosses. Situated near the city of Šiauliai (pronounced shoo-lay, sounds a bit Asian to me) in the north of the country, the hill houses more than 50.000 (!) crosses. The tradition of placing crosses here dates way back (around the 14th century) and today is the finest example of Lithuanian defiance of foreign invaders. After the second World War, Lithuania was of course part of the Soviet Union. During the Soviet era, the pilgrimage to the Hill of Crosses served as a vital expression [View Full Entry]

"Whats your mission on your travels?" That was the question I was asked by two girls I went out for dinner with on my last night in Vilnius. Well, a very good question indeed - what was my mission? Travel round the world walking backwards, or only using female donkeys as the preferred method of transportation, or taking a picture of every person I meet that was wearing pink sandals? To be honest, I don't have a mission. My only idea for the beginning of this trip is that I want to reach China by traveling overland. I feel this will [View Full Entry]

From Berlin I took the train up to the island of Ruegen in the north of Germany, and from there I caught a ferry to Klaipeda in Lithuania. The ferry ride was smooth. The only time a bit of action arose when I decided to burn a piece of paper in my cabin. The crew of the vessel were not amused at all about this, as I soon found out when about seven crew-members appeared outside my door :-) After mediterranean Antalya and hip Berlin, Klaipeda was somewhat of an anticlimax. The guidebook I was reading called it a "grim" city, [View Full Entry]

Well a nice surprise for the End of March (besides the MC election) was the fact that i was invited again to facilitate a working group in Lijot Forum, this time the topic was inter cultural education. I had a one day session with 10 youth organizations and developed a project that hopefully will be put in practice in 2009. The forum took place in "Kernavele" (i am not sure if this is the spelling) but it was a nice place near a lake in the first capital city of Lithuania. This forum was new for me from the aspect [View Full Entry]

Well. The 2nd baltic conference just passed and again i was there as facilitator or in this case agenda manager. The conference was organized by AIESEC in Kaunas and in my perspective it was a success. In between work, being a bit ill and some white nights this conference was a real energy buster and in the same time energy eater....i kept my energy during the conference but after it i was like a zombie, i was not sure what i was doing, saying or why i am in certain places....still i got back in contact with some old friends, [View Full Entry]
