Virtually becoming a couch potato staying at Mindas' comfy flat in the small village of Pakruojis, Ben came to pick us up and enjoy our last night together at his digs in Panevezys, Mindas didn't want to come but relented anyway. We bought a liquor booze made from cherries, and some snacks and we headed to Ben's cool digs, there is an old woman in his apartment on the 1st floor that eyes everyone that comes in the apartment door, Ben said she does that everyday, having nothing to do after retirement, pity. Mindas left very early the next morning on the 1st bus to Pakruojis while Ben and I after we had a good omelette breakfast went for a ride to Birzai in the north, we visited some lakes, a palace, some fort, a few churches before getting back to Panevezys, its dreary, rains on and off and what a relief to come and visit his parent's house, its so beautiful, his Dad is an artist and his paintings and sculptors are so cool, their house is cool! His mom served us late lunch, oh so good, pickled herring with beetroots, roast pig and fresh plums from the garden which
me and Ben picked on the way out. We waited for my bus at the bus stop, in Ramygala. sad goodbyes, Ben and Mindas had been so great to me, I will never forget my stay here, but now I am off to Kaunas.
About an hour's travel we passed by a hill with what looks like snow on the top but it may be some minerals of whatever type, I took a photo of it , it's unusual. At the bus stop in Kaunas, I waited for my new CS host, Raul from Venezuela, a scientist like me, he picked me up at the bus station and we headed to his flat, where I met his 2 friends, Dionara and Lina and we all went to old town, Raul decided to move to the main drag and is now about to sign the lease contract, we got lost getting there, they can't remember where to enter the premises but we made it and saw his nice flat to be, modern and bigger than the other one. Then we headed for a few drinks at a local bar, the town is quiet as it is school day but seems
very nice at night, tired and exhausted I fell asleep quickly at the living room of Raul's flat.
Raul left me his keys and I went to the old town before noon, the bus stop is just outside his apartment, very convenient. Minivan #43 took me to town, the kind driver dropped me off and pointed which direction I should head, Soboras Cathedral, this massive church is the landmark you cant miss, I walked around the area and tried to find an ecolines office to book my bus back to Riga, found it with no problem , Raul told me at 12pm a free tour starts at the Soboras cathedral but I was late, I did not make it on time as I spent time buying my bus fare, so I decided to go for a long walk and do it myself, nice old buildings, and you get free wifi on the main drag, not that I need it but great to know. I had lunch at the expensive Hesburger joint, then resumed walking towards the end of the street and found myself next to the river, I walked back along it and saw the Akropolis mall, as I
need the loo I hurried to get there, wow they have cool toilets with weird uv type lightings but very clean and FREE!
I walked back to the old town for a meet up with Raul next to the fountain but the weather turned and it started raining I met him halfway and we ran towards his new flat so he can give his downpayment. We stopped by a supermarket on the way back to his flat and bought stuff for dinner, he dropped me off at his place while I cook dinner he visited a friend, some couchsurfers also arrived later, a couple from Vilnius, Raul said they are well known surfers in Lithuania, having hosted quite a few people, the guy seem friendly but the woman seems aloof, anyway thyere's something weird about them I just couldn't point my finger on.
Left for Riga the next day and headed straight to the airport for my flight out of the Baltics.

Visiting Kaunas
Everyone who is interested in traveling to Kaunas I can say- it is worth doing, just because of the beautiful architecture and everything else. I am from Poland, and I always go to Kaunas when I have holiday, for me it is the most beautiful citie, but I have to mention one thing, level of criminality is high, so for that reason,, I am always searching only for a calm region, I always check it here- objektai Kaune , and it always shows the truth, I've never had any accident. So have a nice trip!
