Despite climbing up and down the steep steps three times between beach and town, we had a “rest” day at Tropea, an attractive cliff top town which was rather marred by graffiti.
An early morning caller offered us fresh fish - a first for us. Fishermen were mending nets in a nearby shed. We walked along the beach before going in search of an internet point. By the time Roger had updated the blog it was nearly one o’clock so we returned to the van for a leisurely lunch. Later on we explored the narrow alleys, saw many fine porticos and visited the Cathederal.
Before going out for dinner we watched the sun set over the sea and for the first time saw Stromboli, the volcanic Aeolian island about 35 miles away. A magical moment.
