Lake Trasimeno is surrounded by hills, at 128 sq km it is the fourth largest in Italy and has three islands, one of which, Isola Maggiore, is inhabited. We walked into Passignano and as we went past the town pier, a ferry to Isola Maggiore was about to leave. So we boarded it and had a very pleasant couple of hours visiting the island which is reputed to be a favourite of St Francis.

When back to the mainland, we had a climb up to Passignano’s old town and finished the day with an excellent meal at the campsite’s restaurant.
