Day 20 May 15-18
Ravenna, Italy
We caught a train to Perugia via Bologna and Firenze and arrived at 14 25 and was greeted by Beatrice. We were shipped back to their apartment and promptly given lunch. We then headed out so Margy could buy some shoes for Kate.
On our way there Segio was doing over 130 in a 90 zone and Jan was having a melt down. We know that the speed signs are only suggestions. We finally made it home and after dinner, Beatrice gave Margy and I our birthday presents. Then we had a choice of limoncello or mandarino.
The next day Margy needed to exchange the boots she bought for Katie and on the way Chris Jan and I were dropped off at Collestrada. We bought some clothing and Chris and Jan bought some Amaro for Beatrice and Sergio
We headed back to the apartment for a huge lunch then in to the old Perugia but it was a lousy wet day. Margy and I bought some kids books in Italian for the grand kids. Sergio bought us some umbrellas as we walked the at streets of Perugia. Sergio also bought some
museo tickets. Chris had been complaining of a crappy eye so Sergio rang an eye specialist friend who fitted Chris in the next morning before her appointments started. We made an dinner booking for Sergio's birthday at the Ferrari restaurant where Ray and I visited weekly in our stay 10 years earlier.
At 8 we spent an hour in the specialist rooms with her also looking at Sergio's and my eyes too.
We picked up some take away for Sergio's birthday
We went back to Sergio's apartment and celebrated his birthday. Later that we all went out for dinner.
We left Perugia with the help of Sergio at the car rental place. We had to upgrade the car as it was a 4 seater and wouldn't hold our luggage. Margy and Jan fitted snuggly in the back. Chris drove to Monterosso soon he needed to have a pit stop and pulled out the express way only to be hit with another toll when we reentered the motor way. He copped some shit for that. When Chris was in the fast lane and then moved into the slower he would hit the brakes. I asked him a
couple of times to enter the middle lane without having to do that as we were not crash dummies. Chris on a few occasions did not park close enough to be able to reach out at a toll station and grab a ticket or to place ticket into the machine. We laughed about that
A few times he got verrrrry close to the right hand side of the road so much so that Jan and I both called out . We made jokes about it so much that we pissed ourselves laughing. Only for Chris to say that we had to stop as he couldn't drive. I said we know we've just experienced an hour of it. We continued to laugh. Coming in to Monterosso was extremely windy. We found our apartment and asked our host of she could recommend a place to eat. She mentioned the Osteria. She made a booking for us and told us we had the last table. When we arrived the place it was open but the place empty. The name Greenwood was on the table outside. We had a great meal the place was soon very busy with other potential customers being
turned away. We had a chat to the couple next to us who were from Australia. We tried to book again for tomorrow night only to be told that it was fully booked inside as rain was forecasted. Alessandro was happy to take our booking on the proviso that it it didn't rain we had an outside table.
