Struck by Lightening

We made the SFO airport two hours ahead of departure only to find that Delta did not have permission to access to our seat assignments due to the fact that Alitalia had not released our seats from their system 😞. After about thirty minutes of phone calls the Delta ticket desk was able to assign our seats and we were on our way to New York. At the Delta desk we bumped into an old friend at the airport who was sending off a Danish foreign exchange student who had been staying at their house in Fort Bragg. From there our trip took a turn for the worse. After waiting to take off from JFK (destination Milan), we boarded about an hour late and then waited on the tarmack while thunderstorms passed over the airport. After a couple of optimistic announcements by the pilot that we would be taking off in 20 minutes we finally got in the air FOUR HOURS later!!! Of course we missed our morning connection in Milan and boarded an afternoon flight out of Milan to Palermo. When we went to the Milan Alitalia transfer desk to get our boarding pass I naively asked how the airlines would be able to locate and transfer our luggage on to the new flight....The transfer agent said their system would automatically move our suitcases to the new flight and not to worry.....Right. One suite case was retrieved an hour
after landing in Palermo. The second made it the next morning 😱. Many passengers out of JFK
suffered the same fate. Total travel time: Passengers = 28.5 hrs. Suitcases = 46.5 hrs.....I guess all's well that ends well.....
