Un circuito ... read more

Our next campsite was Conca d'Ora near Verbania on Lake Meggiore. A really nice site with a small beach on the lake. We settled in for a week. We had done no washing since leaving home as we could not hang anything to dry. Conca d'Ora was our 'heaven'. Michelle was soon sunbathing on the beach and Terry washing and hanging out clothes. "the world has gone upside down" someone remarked. This was how we lived for the next few days. Then being advised from afar we set off on our bikes for Stresa which was nearly 6 miles away. We had never heard of it but what a lovely place. Some really exotic houses and hotels, none more than the Grand Hotel des Isles Borromees which was made famous by Hemingway's 'Farewell to Arms'. Stresa ... read more

Geo: 45.9215, 8.55156Well, we made it to Italy. The right front wheel didn't fall off. We found the Renault dealer about 5 km from Sion. He didn't speak any English, but somehow I convayed to him that I thought the right front suspension was loose. I went over and shook the wheel, which I did before, and it didn't budge. He looked at it and said it was fine, at least I think that is what he said. So we left and went over the Simplon Pass. It is al long and twisty road up and then down into Italy. The car felt fine, except for a clunking in the front. Oh well, as the French say, c'est la vie! We found a hotel all by ourselves and went in search of the only laundrymat in ... read more

Geo: 45.9215, 8.55156Having spent a couple of days immersed in the vineyards around Barolo we headed north to Torino this morning. This was a pleasant drive on another cool but sunny day. We drove into Torino about 11-30 but did not have a detailed map. Made a wrong turn and then roadworks made the correction time very slow. Eventually, Marg found the city map and we headed back into the centre. Stopped though at the river where there was a fabulously ornate fountain with statues representing the various months of the year. nearby was the Borga Medioeval, a reproduction Medieval village and castle constructed in 1884. We had a wander around there admiring the detail that had been put into this. There were several brides also there posing for pictures in this attractive setting. Drove into ... read more
