The trip from Lyon to Italy was breath-taking. We drove through valleys, seeing mountains all around us, some still snow-capped. The journey also took us through the less scenic, but none the less impressive tunnels that went through the mountains, the longest being 13 km long. The last leg of the journey took us on narrow and winding roads, with many inclines and declines, through acres and acres of vineyards. The village of Alice Bel Colle was beautiful. A small village of 700 people that must all work on the vineyards (except for the Hotel workers of course). In the middle of town, there is a lookout situated on top of the stores of the central area of town. Hi everyone! I'm now in the land of wine and pasta! I've been eating so much since I got to Europe, I think it cancels all the weight I lost in India. I took the flight to Munich, and spent the day there before I took the train to visit my friend in Alessandria. The train took a long time, but the scenery was really nice through Austria. Unfortunately it was pretty cloudy so I couldn't see that many snow caps of the alps. I spent about 5 days with my friend Stefano in his home in Alessandria. What a good vacation! We truly relaxed. Not Alessandria but Alessandria is the closest place in the database. Today we rode around 350 Km from Rimini to Tortoni. This was all motorway and from my point of view on pillion, not very interesting. Conditions were good and after Bologna it was not all trucks. We stopped at a motorway stop off for lunch which was very good. Just cheese and ham sandwiches, but excellent cheese and excellent ham - better than any you can get in the UK for love or money (and being motorway food, very cheap). Tortoni is abut 100 Km from Torino. As far as we know it is not famous for anything, it was just where we were ready to stop. Finding a hotel was not easy. We fund a central hotel but it was shut.
