Since we got into Milan late the night before, this was our first real day in Italy! We ended up sleeping into until really late (around noon) but it didn't really matter because we didnt have too much planned for the day. After we got ready and left the hotel, we chanced upon a really cute pastry shop with delicious looking croissants. We cashed in on some pastries and then got onto the metro to get to the city center.
When we exited the metro station, we found ourselves right in the middle of the Centrale Duomo square. There were people everywhere and it was quite overwhelming. Before I knew it, there was some guy shoving corn seeds into my hand and then all of these disgusting pigeons attacking me. There was no real way to stop it and then when I finally realized what was going on, the guy started harrassing me for money. I shoved 50 cents into his hand and then quickly ran off before he was able to follow me. Ugh gross pigeons are disgusting!
Once we all got over that little incident, we checked out the inside of the duomo cathedral, a gothic church
famous for its numerous spires. It was cool to see a church that was nontraditional yet so beautiful.
The rest of the day involved walking around all the high end shops in Milan, attempting to find the outlets and failing miserably, and then having lunch at McDonalds. And yes, I was still craving meat so I had the Crispy McBacon and curly fries (potatas vertigo)...delicious! It sucks though that you have to pay for ketchup here (10 cents for a little packet). After lunch we went to the supermarket to buy some fruit and juice, and then headed back to the hotel to relax.
Later in the evening, we headed out again and walked through the Galleria Emmanuel, which is an open shopping mall with an elaborate ceiling and the zodiac symbols on the floor. We found the taurus (which is my zodiac symbol), put our foot on the bull's genitals, and spun around in a circle for good luck. It was quite the site to behold.
When we had had enough of bull genitals, we set off to find a nice place to go to dinner since it was Claire's last night with us. We settled
on yet another pizza place (pan pizza this time), and Ly and I were pretty content with our hot dog pizza. After dinner, we got gelato! At this point Gajal was starting to feel nauseous but still ate her gelato! The sacrifices we make for gelato...sigh...
We tried to hang out at a live music bar for a while but everyone started to get tired and Gajal was trying to puke up her dinner (she was sick) so we just decided to go home. When we arrived back at hotel demo, Gajal and Claire pretty much passed out right away. So that left Ly and I with the portable dvd player and Under the Tuscan sun. And this is how I got to know Marcello. Kinda sounds like lemonciello. Ok not really. But Diane Lane really should have gotten with Marcello! Anyways that is besides the point. We watched the movie which was really quite enjoyable, but then the dvd player died on us with 10 seconds left in the movie. Poor dvd player... RIP.
Since we were out of entertainment options at that point, it was time to call it a night.
