No idea what this is publicizing and why the date October 19, 2007. Please tell me if you know This week I had a couple of new experiences. For example I went to see Babel at a theater new the Duomo. Mauro and a couple of his friends invited me to go see it. The movie was in Italian but it was a good experience because I had seen the movie in English before I left so I could try and understand Italian from comparing it to the first time I saw it. The movie theater was interesting because unlike in the States, you have to buy a specific seat in the theater before you enter, and there is a computer diagram of the remaining seats for the line to see before you pay. Also, the theater we went to was interesting because the art inside of the building was oil paintings of nude women. Not quite what you see decorating American movie theaters. Finally as you see by the picture there was a sign for a movie that seemed to be about the death of George W. Bush (still don’t know what is going on with that, please tell me if you know anything about it).
While I was walking home from work I saw a group
"Native Italians"
This was unexpected for me of people playing instruments. When I looked through the crowd I saw some people dressed up as… Native-Italians??? or Italian-Indians??? I really have no idea what they would be called and I am pretty sure there isn’t a big population of them in Milan. While I was out I got a picture in front of the Duomo (but you cannot see much of the Duomo so I guess that was a bust). Finally tonight I was able to finally find an art supply store and was able to buy some paint and canvases so I can begin to paint while I am here. Before I found the paint store I found another high class fashion street. I was surprised I hadn’t come upon it earlier because it was close to my apartment. I did buy a new wallet and two pairs of dress shoes at Bruno Magli (Don I am sure you are proud of those purchases).
This week I went out with Mark and some friends I made through him which is what a good portion of the pictures are of. That group of people is good to go out with because most of them speak English as
a first language whether it is Tane the Australian/ Kiwi or Chris from L.A. Also this Sunday we went to brunch with a group of girls who were mostly Italian, but there were a couple of them from America so I was nice to meet other people outside of the normal group of people we hang out with.
I have also gone out with Mauro a couple of times and have met many of his Italian friends. They have all been very nice to me and speak English while a good amount of the time but also try to speak Italian to me when I can understand it. Sadly, Johnny, who is from Puerto Rico, had to leave to go back home because his mom get sick and he had to go home to take care of her. He was a nice guy and it was too bad everything ended as it did for him in Milan. Also, for lunch each day I have been taken by Mauro and Alessandro to some restaurants that all of the local Italian businessmen go to. The food has been amazing and it is great that I now know about all of the
secret places that the Italians go to instead of just going to the same place each day.
The weather had been pretty warm here and on Sunday at the brunch we all stood outside and enjoyed the warm, spring-like weather. That being said, Sunday was the only day with sunshine this last week, and today it rained pretty much all day. So as I walked around tonight buying things I got drenched since I didn’t take an umbrella (it wasn’t raining when I left for work).
Tomorrow Alberto returns from being in Phoenix for a week and a half, and he is bringing two of my paintings that he is going to put up in one of his houses. Hopefully the paintings make it to Milan alright, since they are being taken on the plane with Alberto. Finally, I am working on finding some Italian classes to take a few times a week so that I can get better at Italian and start to understand what everyone is saying around me.

Hi Taylor
It is great to hear from you and read all your comments. Enjoy your stay, I love Milan and Italy in general, I spent so many summers on the Adriatic, and travelled through Italy every summer. It was agreat and rich experience. Love from Paul and Denis, from frigid New York..
