Trip through Eastern Europe Again, I have been traveling for a while and that is why I have not updated in a while. Since the last blog I have had my friend Ethan come and stay for a week, where we basically just stayed in Milan, other than a day trip back to Cinque Terre to go to the beach. After Ethan’s return to the U.S. I took a trip to Eastern Europe and went to Ljubljana, Slovenia then to Zagreb, Croatia and finally to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. My trip was during the week last week, I left on Monday (because Monday and Tuesday are holidays in Italy) and took a morning train to Venice where I spent six hours waiting to leave on my train to Ljubljana. I found out that when travelling ... read more

Untitled Switzerland Paris and Monte Carlo Untitled Day in Parco Sempione I have not written anything for a while because I have been gone for the last few weeks. I first went to Lichtenstein and Zurich Switzerland for a weekend with one of my friends. I got back to Milan on Sunday and that was the same day that my mom flew into Milano. Next, Alberto, my mom, Tatiana, Alberto’s son, one of Alberto’s architects and I all went to Sardinia on the 10 hour boat ride from the mainland directly to Sardinia. The boat left at 9 p.m. on Monday and arrived in the early morning in Sardinia on Tuesday. When we got there, other than some renovation that needed to be done to Alberto’s house in Sardinia, nothing much went on because ... read more

On Friday Alberto drove us to his house in Monte Carlo. The drive there was beautiful as we drove along the cliffs down to the ocean. Alberto's apartment is on the side of the mountain overlooking most of Monte Carlo (and most of Monaco for that matter). On Friday we stayed in the apartment most of the day while some work was done on the apartment, and while that was being done I hung my two paintings that Alberto bought for the apartment. One painting is in the living room and one is in a bedroom. Saturday we drove 15 minutes where we crossed into Mentone which is the only town in France that lies between Italy and Monaco. Also Alberto’s boat is docked in Mentone. We went to see the boat and meet with Alberto’s ... read more

For the last couple of weeks soccer stadiums here have been off limits to the public because a police officer died at a game a few weeks ago while trying to stop a fight. Now they are starting to relax the rules again and might let non-season ticket holders in. I have been waiting to see when/if I will be able to go to a game or more while I am here, next wednesday is a game, so keep your fingers crossed. This week Alberto and I went to the airport to rescue my paintings that he brought to Italy. They got stopped at the airport until their value could be assessed. Since I had painted them I went with him and we got them back. It was insane how well they were packaged, there was ... read more

This week I had a couple of new experiences. For example I went to see Babel at a theater new the Duomo. Mauro and a couple of his friends invited me to go see it. The movie was in Italian but it was a good experience because I had seen the movie in English before I left so I could try and understand Italian from comparing it to the first time I saw it. The movie theater was interesting because unlike in the States, you have to buy a specific seat in the theater before you enter, and there is a computer diagram of the remaining seats for the line to see before you pay. Also, the theater we went to was interesting because the art inside of the building was oil paintings of nude ... read more

This week I was able to walk around town more and learn my way around the streets better. I have been able to search around the Duomo area in more depth as well as being able to get around the area called Romolo (which is where Mark lives and where a lot of students live) and Brerra, which is a strange area inhabited by gypsies (they come out at night and tell fortunes on the streets, along with people who gamble at tables that get set up on the streets). Brerra was also the place we went to watch the super bowl. To see the super bowl, we went to a club named fiori oscuri, which is a posh nightclub frequented by models most nights, and is owned by a guy from New Mexico. It was ... read more

So far, my time has been taken up by going to Alberto's office on weekdays, coming home to eat at 19.00, then having my 30th cup of coffee for the day, which is basically a true estimate. After that I have just been doing a couple of things around the house and going to bed, I dont think I am totally on Milanese time yet. I did go out with Mark (Fuller) the second night I was here, we went with Mark's friends to a party for students from the top fashion school in Milan, everyone was dressed way to nicely. We went with two of his American friends, a Puerto Rican (which I guess is American too) and his Italian roommate. Tonight (January 31) I am venturing out into the city for the second time. ... read more
