Italy

Italy Location

Took a (3) hr train from Nice to Genoa....it certainly felt a lot longer as a result of getting home in the wee hours of morning. Sitting next to us was an American guy who had been studying in Germany, which led to a good conversation about the differences between the North American and European ways of life. There was needless to say a little entertainment to follow when the ticket "Boss" came along to check tickets and when handed the American's Euro Rail pass went into overdrive with his "Power Trip". The American had not penciled in the day for [View Full Entry]

Got a few updates for you so here goes!!!! We left Venice a while ago we think!! Didnt really know where we were going so decided to head for Genoa on the other side of Italy. Ended up travelling all the way there in a day which took about 8 hours, after the long journey we didnt fancy finding a camp site so found a hotel instead, with a much needed pool of course. It was on the coast west of Genoa in a place called Celle Ligure, it was a lovely sea side town with no English people...........bliss!! Could only [View Full Entry]

Hi, I typed this beautiful and oh so long blog only to have it erased so here goes again but with maybe just slightly less enthusiasm. So on August 1st at 4:30pm i got a job on a boat and at 10:30pm that very evening i arrived in Monte Carlo train station to meet the boat which was at the port preparing to leave to Genoa the next day at 5am. I'm 4th stewardess...not very glam and mainly just a glorified cleaner but hey it pays well and i get free accom and all my food and pretty much everything i [View Full Entry]

ITALY vs. FRANCE!
soo.. its been a long time! Everything is going unreal! We're both doing really well and having an amazing time exploring Europe. So far we've done the west coast countries and they surpast our expectations. We've seen some amazing sights and had a great time. Now we are at our half way point ... can you believe it!?!? We split our trip to Italy up into two parts with our trip to Greece being in the middle. Going back to the 9th of July.... VIVA ITALIA!! Italy beat France in the World Cup final and guess where we were ... ITALY! [View Full Entry]

So as per the recommendation of the Owen WIlson look a like we met on the Paris metro we are headed out to Cinque Terre today. Its a group of 5 little villages along what is supposed to be some of the most beautiful coast line in the world. The hike is long but you can go swimming in the Meditteranian (spelling?) whenever so thats cool. We met this couple from Nashville yesterday who were as lost as we were trying to find the only hostel in Genoa which is at the top of a huge hill. Side note: Italian bus [View Full Entry]

Sun Up In the Med
Sun Up In the Med
On route to teh Elba Islands to collect Mark and Elizabeth
While it was still dark out the owner Mark & Elizabeth took their dog Dante for his morning constitution, Andy stumbled into the shower laterally at 06:15 he had stayed out on the dock with other cursers until the wee hours of the morning drinking wine, beer and I am sure what ever was going free on the dock. I rolled over in my bunk it felt like I had slept for less than 10 hours in the last 48, which in retrospect was still 50% more than Andy; I was interested to see how the morning would go. I [View Full Entry]

Been in Genoa Italy since Saturday arrived at the ship to find that they had off loaded earlier than scheduled for the boat and Andy were gone, of course the battery on my cell phone was flat and the new 12V charger I purchased is in the cabinet draw behind the desk. I managed to get a ride from the port security back to hotel where Andy had been staying, after settling his account (good job I stopped by) I used their telephone to call all of the marinas in Genoa to find out who had a reservation for Windsong, [View Full Entry]

Started out early from Cinque Terre. The first train was cancelled (more fun), which put me off schedule. I sat and talked to a guy from Sweden for about an hour. He had studied Italian in Perugia for about five months and said it was like one big party (but he did learn a lot of Italian). He also knew German and English pretty well. Very interesting guy. It was his fifth time to Cinque Terre. From there, I went through La Spezia to Genova to visit the Acqqurio di Genova, which is the largest acqarium in Europe. Genova is also [View Full Entry]

Genova Aquarium

 Europe » Italy » Liguria » Genoa
The aquarium, our only reason for stopping in Genova, was a fairly short (if winding) walk from the train station down to the waterfront. It claims to be one of Europe's greatest attractions, and it really was pretty amazing. I like the feel of the Monterey Bay Aquarium better--Genova was a little sterile feeling--but it was really cool to see what's going on under the Mediterranean. Along with a coral reef display and thousands of smaller fish, they had two bottlenose dolphins, a family of harbor seals, and a small but busy hummingbird forest. They had a whole tank just of [View Full Entry]

So we found our hostel, but since there was a bus strike ended up taking a cab with a girl we met from Australia. We unpacked, we are in seperate rooms which is proving complicated, is washed with face wash today. We then walked down the mountain to Genoa and checked out the city and had food down at the old port, we had pasta, fish, and gelato (fixed price meal) and this punch stuff, its a really sweet liqour which we diluted with fanta. Alex woke up at 3 am, so lets just say this morning has been rough, breakfast [View Full Entry]
