As we loaded in the van with Marco outside of the train station, he told us the other driver already picked up our friends at their hotel and would meet us at the first stop, the Bracciano castle. (I apologize for my spelling: I am typing fast since I am paying per minute and I left my notes in the room). He said since the train was late, this would save time. A little disappointed as I couldn't wait to see all of them and hear of their experiences in Rome. We had been there 4 years ago and that is why we went to Paris instead. Marco was a wonderful guide, very experienced driver in Rome. He said it was like battle each day. It was amazing we didn't side swipe someone. He pointed out different things as we swiftly drove by them. He is expecting his 7th child in February. We had good discussion with us about the US election. He is very conservative so we had a lot of the same views. It was amazing to see how much he knew about the US.
We arrived at the castle before our friends (that shows you how fast he
was driving!). They arrived a few minutes later and it was hugs and kisses.
We toured the castle (same one that Tom and Katie were married). It sat on top of a mountain, overlooking a lake, so beautiful. It was difficult to listen to the guide as I wanted to catch up with Henna and Annie. Annie has so many stories to tell. She tap danced in the streets of Rome, her tour guide wanted her to stay with her in Rome and many more stories. She had studied some Italian and read up on history before she left and it made the trip enjoyable!
After the castle we headed for lunch in Cieri. Henna, Larry and Annie hopped in our van to join us. We had fun sharing our experiences and Annie enjoyed talking to Marco. He quizzed her on a few points of history and she passed.
We arrived in Cieri and had a wonderful, authentic Italian lunch; 3 types of pasta dishes, bread, bruschetta, olive oil and lots of wine!!
We had so much fun there that guests at the other tables laughed with us (or at us?).
We left to go to the ship. We had
planned on stopping at a vineyard but because of time we did not; plus we had enough wine for the time being.
We arrived at the ship, no problems. Security found a cork screw in our bag, looked at it and said OK and gave it back to us.
When we arrived at our room, Minnie had decorated it with 'Happy Anniversary', they also had all gone together and purchased us a basket of wine, fruit, cheese, etc. So kind of them. We will share with them during a happy hour.
Went to dinner at 6pm. We had 2 people we did not know, at our table. Henna sat next to "John". She said hello, and then he started talking and never stopped, truly! We were laughing at her as she was being polite to him. Kenny kept trying to make her laugh.
Tonight is his punishment as he has to sit next to John-it was a unanimous decision.
Had breakfast, toured the ship; Ken is smoking a cigar and drinking scotch as I update you. I hope to take a nap. Will update you later. The ocean is very rough today; but doesn't seem to bother any of us
yet. Barcelona tomorrow! God Bless!
