The Wrong Fountain
The Triton Fountain...NOT the Trevi Fountain What can I say about Rome? It is the most beautiful ancient city in the world. I loved it. We found our hotel easy enough. Then we decided we could go see the Trevi Fountain. That took forever but we eventually found it after finding the Triton fountain first. It was breath taking. Such a romantic spot. Pop you should take Mom there one day. You're supposed to throw a coin in it over your left shoulder, or is it your right? Anyway...it symbolizes that you will one day return to Rome. I would like to one day. I was a little irritated because it was taking us forever to find it and I was tired, but once we there it was simply magical. It's so pretty at night. The next day we walked our butts off! We saw so much in one day!! We went to the Spanish steps first. They were cool. Just a bunch of steps. But still, they're famous steps. Then we went to the Vatican. Talk about a hike! We passed an ancient castle that I don't remember what it's called. St. Peter's Bascilica was pretty but creepy. There was lots of dead Popes there. I
thought it was weird, but I guess it's cool to the Romans. Hey...when in Rome right? The line to get in wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was only about 30 minutes. It was quite deceiving to look at. The church was really big. It wasn't as inspiring as I thought it would be though. They all start to look alike after a while. Then we wanted to see the Sistine Chapel. That took even longer. To get to the chapel you had to walk through the entire Vatican Museum. It seemed to take forever, but there was a lot of neat stuff there. I loved the part of the Chapel that was painted by Raphael. There were tapestries of episodes from Jesus' life hanging on some of the walls created by students of Raphael. They were very graphic. There was one of the killing of the two year olds as ordered by the emperor at the time when they were searching for Jesus. It was disturbing. The children were bleeding and being stabbed and there were crying mothers. Awful. It definitely helps you visualize the event. The murals by Raphael were painted in rich, vibrant
colors. He used lots of red. The painting by Michelangelo was definitely really cool though. I got in trouble though for taking pictures. Oops! I really liked the painting of Adam and Eve. It was well done and the colors were beautiful. After that we headed to the Roman Forum where we met Charlotte. It took us a while to get there though, we got a little lost. On the walk to and from the Vatican there are all of these bag and souvenir sales people where you know they're selling you stolen goods. We were walking down the street when all of a sudden I hear this rushing sound pitter-pattering. Then I feel this bump so hard I almost fell down. The street-sellers were being chased by the police and were running away! It was ridiculous! I've never seen such a thing before. It was a little scary because they're creepy people anyway. What can you do though? It's so silly though because the cops just chase them and they put there stuff down a little farther away. So stupid. We passed the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It's this huge white building with all sorts of statues and
stuff in front of it. It was pretty. Then we saw the Colosseo on the way to the Forum. My mouth dropped. It's so beautiful and massive! It's so much more impressive in person than in a picture book. It reminded me of being in front of the David. Inspiring. Seeing Charlotte was nice. We only saw her for a little bit though. We walked through the Forum and saw where Caesar is buried apparently. It was a rock. Not impressive at all. That was an interesting twist. Then we saw Johnny and Hobbs. I've known them since freshman year. They're nice guys. They invited us to their apartment (they're studying in Rome with Charlotte) for dinner. Before we went there though we wanted to go to see the Pantheon. We couldn't go in though because of course there was some sort of religious service going on. It was super frustrating. In Rome though most of the streets are lined with orange trees. They're so pretty. I wanted to pick them but they were up to high for me to reach 😞 We had dinner at Johnny's though which was super fun! The boys made us steak (not as good
as Pops but still) and pasta. It was very nice of them and saved us some money 😊 Then we all went out and had a good time. Rome was a blast and I can't wait to go back...one day.
