This was such a marvelous adventure. I had a great time with Monica and Natalie. We got to relax a lot. On the train up we met two elderly history professors from Paris. They were very nice and once had been to Virginia a few times, once for two months! How random is that? The only stressful part of this trip was trying to find our hotel! We got lost in what I can only assume to be the Chinatown of Nice. The first thing we saw when we got out of the train station and on our way was a red neon sign blinking "Sex, Sex, Sex." Very awkward if I do say so myself. Anyway we eventually found it. It was very nice. I had a nice double bed all to myself. We had a clean shower/bathroom even if it didn't always have hot water. We were very satisfied. That first night we went and wandered around because we were starving at o...11 p.m. It took us a while but we finally found somewhere to eat. It was some pasta place. Then we went and found this marvelous ferris wheel. We got to go on it of course. It
was so cool to see Nice at night. There was this thing in the distance that was all lit up and made me think of mini golf. Gosh I miss that! I'll have to go there when I go home. We could see the yoga-like statues up on high poles that change colors that we walked past earlier and the fountain that we had seen. We were scared to go through the "park" because Natalie's book said it was dangerous and scary. Bullcrap! It was a two step walk across and that's where the beach was! So after the ferris wheel we went to the beach. That was cool but upsetting. It was all rocks! That's not a beach. The next day though I did find Mom lots of beach glass. I was happy about that. After the beach we went out for a drink. We found this bar from Nat's book called Thor. We each got a beer and went outside to sit because it was way too crowded.b Then these sketchy guys came and sat with us. They wanted us to go dancing and we said no because 1. we didn't want to go with them and 2.
Ferris Wheel
Yes I loved it. It was fabulous. Natalie was sick. Long story short we ended up having to literally run away from these guys because they got a little too creepy. I'm sure we looked ridiculous because we didn't have to run away but it added to the dramatic effect. The next day we went and sat on a rocky beach and tried to watch the flower parade. Apparently they have it every year. We saw lots of flowers that people had afterwards. We went to the Castle looking area which is actually a public park. It was really neat. It made me think of Secret Garden. There did used to be a castle there a long time ago. Not so much anymore though. There was this race when we were there too. It may have even been a triathalon but we don't really know. It doesn't really matter either. Anyway someone at the park was getting married and there was a little kids birthday party. We felt a little awkward being there but o well. When we went down we saw a carousel which I of course had to ride, so Monica and I rode the carousel. I felt like a kid again. It was fabulous.
That night we went to this light parade. It was kind of creepy. There were bugs and lots of cats and bats. There was also a random godzilla eating the Statue of Liberty. That kind of pissed us off a bit, but what can you do? It was the only time I ever felt unwelcome in France. The show was neat though. It reminded me a bit like a Halloween parade should one ever exist. There was also lots of silly string that got all in my hair and we were all very annoyed. The one highly entertaining portion of the parade was this girl that had to be no more than 10 years old. She was up on this float breaking it down like a stripper. My oh my! If she were my child I would have yanked her off of that float in a heartbeat. I blushed, literally. I don't know how some people can let there children behave in such a manner. After the parade we attempted to return to Ma Nolan's where we had dined earlier that day on delicious cheeseburgers (you get cravings trust me!). We would have gone in but a big black bouncer
Nice Beach
Those are all rocks. started talking to us in French and he was big and scary so we just ran away. I'm sure we looked like idiots but we were scared. We returned to our hotel with aspirations of venturing back out but Natalie wasn't feeling well and Monica was passing out so we just stayed in. Then I passed out quick too while Natalie was reading something I paid no attention to. It was an evening well spent. END.
