Today we said goodbye to some of the people that were here for only a week, there was a small "graduation" ceremony for them consisting of a "diploma" and much clapping and fanfare from all! I guess more students will be joining us next week.
It is really hard to believe I've been gone for a week, it has gone by really fast, though I have a feeling the next week will be slower with looking forward to going home on my mind as I am missing my family!
After class today, I came back to the apt and had lunch, checked emails, and rested a bit. I then went out exploring the town a little, tried to find the shop my hostess said she buys homemade pasta from, I think I found it but it was closed... While on that part of the town had a gelato, my very first bad one! Who knew there was such a thing? But there it is, bad gelato does exist...
From there made my way back to the grocery that had good prices and bought a few items, went to the fruit stand nearby as I thought I would
try a new one. I picked out a few plums, the price posted was 2,50€ that is what I've been paying. Took them in, the teen girl put them on the scale and quickly took them off and said 2€ I thought I had seen a little over a half kilo on the scale so asked how much? She repeated herself and I told her to weigh them again, I saw that they were a little over a half kilo and asked how much a kilo? She said 4€, this was not flying! I said no they Are 2,50... You get the picture, showed her the price and she says that price is for the other items, well she may rip off a lot of tourists but she got this one irritated and I said no, and she said bye-bye, and so did I!! I'm sure she pockets a lot of money from unsuspecting people, but I had been paying not even an euro for about the same amount so it raised a flag when she said 2....
Was given some laundry detergent by another student and took my wash to a self serve laundry and sat for half an hour
reading while it washed, the dryer took another 20 minutes and they still came out a bit damp, I think that is how it generally goes here with their dryers, could be user error but I think I did it right this time :-/
Came back to the apt and fixed myself a salad and gnocchi again, read up on the Amalfi coast as some other students and I are planning (if the weather is good) take the ferry to one of the towns, bus in between them and then ferry back. Will tell you all about it tomorrow!
Ciao!
