That's right "The Mummies" arrived safe & sound in London & we dragged them off to enjoy the sun drenched coasts and charming swarthy men of Amalfi. While the bodies rotted away over the millennia, their gimaces of pain at the moment of death was preserved in the ash that surrounded their bodies. Just pour plaster into the ash cavaties and this is what you find - often with human skulls and teeth intact. It looks like dying of poisonous gas (it's this that killed the inhabitants) is not a pleasant way to go.

Every generation thinks they were the first to be naighty, rude or dirty. Think again. This was what the Romans used to scare away bad spirits (I'm sure they scared nubile girls too!) - you shoul d see what images they had in the brothel we visited!

THey charge you Euro 6.50 to climb to the top and it's not nearly as pretty as Rangitoto! Hey, well Brendon & Mary refused the climb out of principle, I was desparate to see the vista of Naples. Thanks to the nice kiwi couple who took this pic.

We watched the sun rise & set here every day over nice breakfasts and beautiful, dinners of the freshest pasta, fish (me) and grilled vegetables. Yummy.
