14/15/16/17 May 06 I haven't written in a few days and nothing really exciting has happened except for today so the past few dazs are going to get blurred into one. Well first off the whole thing with having two jobs didn't really work out. If I kept the office job full time all that I could work at Bewley's was weekend shifts and who wants to be working everyday for a whole summer and not being able to go anywhere or see anything.. definitely not me. so after a bit of thinking I chose to go with Bewley's full time and not go with the office job. Now I keep on thinking did I really make the right decision?! well I guess I'll just have to see how it turns out. But there is only one Bewley's and Ireland is known for this place so I guess it is a kind of land mark!?!
Yesterday I worked all day with both jobs. First I got my PPS number (you need this for tax reasons for your pay). If you don't have it the gov't will take 47%!o(MISSING)f your pay away and with it they will only take off 22%! (MISSING)
But no matter when you get it they will give you the extra money that they had taken off. so anyways I had a piece of paper that they gave me at the orientation and it said that the office was open at 9:15. This was not bad seen as I would only be 1/2 hour- 45 min late for work (I started at 9-office job) but the sign in front of the office said it wouldn't be open until 9:30. so I waited outside for 1/2 hour for it to open. However, I was the first person in line and only ended up being 1 hour late. They let me leave at like 4 because they had no work left for me to do but still said I would get paid until 5:30.(this was definentally) This was good because it gave me time to go home and get something to eat before I had to be at Bewley's at 6. I worked till close which is 10 but by the time that we cleaned up it was like 11. Its a good thing I live less than 5 min away and all the streets are always filled with people
no matter what time it is. so by the end of the day I was completely dead!!
Since my job at the office was done I had the next day off!
18 May 06 Today was my day off so of coarse I slept in. I woke up around 10 to the construction workers outside of my window. It wasn't the most pleasant awakening but it allowed me to see the sun coming in through my window. A nice day in Dublin without rain=very unusual so take advantage of it. so I got up and got dressed to explore. First I met up with Sarah at 11 for a coffee before she had to work at 12. We went into a place called Butlers Chocolates!! mm it was soo good! Coffee and Chocolate croissant - excellent. Plus they give you a free chocolate and it just melts in your mouth. However, the only thing is that they charge you different prices for take away and to stay in (its cheaper to take away). Sarah and I were going to stay in but they lady never asked us and gave us all of our things in take away but charged
us for staying in. So we sat down and started drinking/eating/chatting and the next thing we know a person that works there is asking us to leave because we have take away. We told her that we were charged to stay in so she said we could stay but we decided to go to Stephen's Green Park and eat/drink/chat. The reason she gave for why we couldn't stay there with take away is because they need to keep room for the people who want to stay in. I can understand that if it were busy but we were like the only people who were sitting down and there was about 6 other places to sit.. but I guess they can't bend the rules for everyone. The park was nice though! Its very pretty inside with lots of places to sit/walk and theres a pond and fountain and as usual in Ireland everything is very green. I then went and dropped off my time sheet to Grafton for the last 2 weeks then I hopped on the Dart(the train) and went to Graystones, Bray and Dalkey. It was 7 euros for a day pass and then I could hop on and
Graystones
Boats on the shore off whenever I wished. Graystones was the farthest you could go on the Dart and it was about a 45 min train ride. It was beautiful there. Once off the Dart I started to walk around and noticed a hill that I decided that I wanted to climb so I started to wander around to find how to get to it. Instead I did a lot of "exploring" and ended up getting so fed up because I couldn't get to it and it was raining that I decided to go back to the Dart and to to the next town in- Bray. I had heard a lot of people talk about it so I was intrigued to go there. Again there was a hill with a cross on top. So there had to be some way of getting up there. I finally found a way.. even if it was through a small path in the bushes. but a path was a path and that meant that people have traveled up it before and so could I. I enjoyed the walk up it was very nice.. well except for the rain and the wind. Thank god I had my umbrella. Finally
I found my way to where I could see the top and then it started to pour so while I still had some shelter under the trees I sat there with my umbrella/trees protecting me from the jist of the rain. When it cleared up I made it up to the top! The view was absolutely beautiful! Plus you could see all around! That's the one thing I love about being on the top of hills this big is you get to see sooo much! Well the rain didn't hold off for long it started to pour and at the top of this hill there were no trees to protect me and I didn't want to take out my umbrella because it was so windy and it would have been blown away so fast. So I ended up getting soaked. After taking a few pics I quickly made it down to where there was at least some shelter. I followed the path that these school kids has taken down (they were leaving soon after I made it to the top). It ended up being a much easier trail than the one that I had taken, however there was much more
Graystones
These trees were all around the town and they smelt really good mud. yuck!! It ended up bringing me to a paved concrete path which was much nicer than walking in the mud. I decided that the rain was too much and I was going to head home, but I ran into 2 Spanish guys that were at the top of the hill when I was there. We ended up walking around for a while. One of them was named Powlo ( I don't know the actual spelling but that is how it is pronounced) and I have no clue what the other guys name was. Powlo lives in Dublin and his friend was just here visiting for the week. We split up once we got to the dart station, I was going to head home and they went on to explore some more of the town. On my way back on the train I saw this castle on a peninsula so I got off at the next stop (Dalkey) and walked around until I found the castle. It ended up being on an island so I couldn't go right up to it.. but there are some pics of it and it was very beautiful. Finally I made my way home. and
that was the extend of my day. There will be pics once I get time to add them.
