My fun filled weekend started off with an 8 am bus to Dublin with Sammi and Kyle. When we arrived in the city, we found the information office and got a map right away so we didn't get lost. Right down the street was a Carroll's. These stores are the most touristy places I have ever seen. It is a huge gift shop. There was so much green everywhere. I found some shamrock boxer shorts there and I love them. We decided to make our way over the the Guinness Factory Storehouse. On the way we stopped at a little cafe for lunch. We figured that because it wasn't busy and was a small place it would be good food. Boy were we wrong. The owner asked for Kyle's order 4 times and then when we ... read more

The sentiment of mercy is the natural recoil which the laws of the universe provide to protect mankind from destruction by savage passions. I was standing there, in front of my life a glass of whiskey in one hand, not knowing what to write and where to start. I had been exactly in the same position for the best of the last four months. Standing over a book which barely had half a page left in it; trying to write something that would make people react ... But I had no clue. After all this time on the road telling people it was what we were made to do, telling people I couldn't imagine myself not moving every day... That there was image of the wild world popping in my head every time I was closing ... read more

Dublin...

London, England- June 23-26 Tired and jetlagged, miraculously Alexis and I managed to find our hostel in London with little effort. The directions given to us by the man at the train station could have been disastrous but, in this case, worked out perfectly. After checking in, we decided to have a nap as we had very little sleep the night before and, although it was 1:00 pm in London, it was still only 6:00 am Canadian time. We did wander the city in the evening and stopped at a restaurant called Shakespeare for a snack, drink, and some great live music. Although it may seem unfathomable, I must admit that I got us lost on the way back to the hostel that evening and I am predicting that Alexis will be bragging for years to ... read more
While in London, Alexis and I met up with my friend Stephanie (who I had travelled with for four weeks in New Zealand on the KiwiExperience bus) and her boyfriend Dave for lunch.

In case you haven't heard, we've been planning an awesome trip to Ireland. Forgive this boring entry, but I'm testing out the old blog to make sure it works. I've also discovered that it's tough to post via my iPad, so I'm testing to see if I can start it here and then add to it from iPad. okay, here goes...... read more

I have to love my sisters for taking me to an Indian restaurant in Dublin for my birthday. Best birthday ever! Flowers in my hotel room from Claire, and a torte (tart?) from the hotel staff. Only one mishap so far and it may be because Jeanne abused a luggage salesman in another life or something. The wheel fell off her monstrous suitcase. In Switzerland it was the handle. Although we've all sworn that we would never take a bus tour, we took the "Hop on Hop off" double decker bus and were driven all over Dublin with a running commentary in the background. A little nippy but I'm so glad we're not driving! We learned quite a few tidbits on the tour. First of all, there's an abundance of historical evidence that women have not ... read more

Arriving in Dublin, Ireland with no sleep was then not condusive to catching the correct airport bus...but after 2 or 3 misadventures, missed bus stops and a very exhausted walk, I arrived at my hostel and put my bags away. A few calls home to various friends and family were in order and afterwards I went out to explore the local streets. In typical Irish fashion it began to rain, and as I had not brought my umbrella and was famished, I ducked into the first place I cold find that didn't look like a rowdy pub. Turned out it had great traditional music, even better soup and soda bread, lovely hot tea and free wifi (and a cute and attentive waiter). So having checked all the boxes for a great place to have lunch, I ... read more
