On Saturday I went on a heritage trip with UCC Chaplaincy. We went for a day trip to explore Youghal in County Cork and Ardmore in Waterford. Youghal is a medieval town where Oliver Cromwell permanently left Ireland from. It used to be the 2nd most important port in the British Empire. St.Declan's Cathedral is now mostly in ruins, but all the outer walls still stand. The church dates back to the 13th century, before the time of St.Declan.

These stones feature a primitive form of writing. Most Ogham stones, like this one, contain the names and familial ties of individuals. They were possibly used as territorial markers.

This one simply reads, "Amadu" or, "The beloved." It dates back to the 5th century.
