Sun Shining on the Blue Water

Pack up, check out and straight to the Blue Lagoon.

It's a 20 minute drive from Reykjavík and we got there right about
the time they opened so it wasn't overly crowded yet. The Blue Lagoon is
a geothermal spa located in a lava field, the water is rich in minerals
that are super good for your skin.

Our package included the use of robes and towels, a free gift bag, a
free drink and face mask. Basically you just show up, walk into a super
posh Euro showering/changing hotel and then walk 20 feet onto the deck
of the most gorgeous hot spring pool. The water is HOT and feels great
after the dumb weather of the last few days. It puts every spring that
we've been to in Colorado to shame. We would have stayed in for days if
we could. We were able to relax in the water for three hours, John had a
beer and Marleah had a carrot ginger juice from the bar you swim up to.
Everything was done with scan-able wrist bands so you could just pay at
the end on the way out, easy. Also at the bar you get your face mask,
we got one volcanic scrub and one algae mud mask so we could try both of
them. Sometime in the early part of the afternoon, groups of young
people starting showing up and the feeling of the place became very beer
swilling, spring break party time. We got out pretty soon after that.
The Blue Lagoon has become extremely touristy!

All of that aside, it was one of our favorite parts of the trip and a great way to end it!

After showering and changing we took a shuttle to the airport and
had one of the fastest and easiest check-in/security experiences of our
lives. We had enough time to have lunch before catching our flight home.
8 hours, no one in the third seat so we could stretch out and sleep and
another easy airport experience in Denver when we breezed through
customs (that rarely happens). Unfortunately the car had a flat tire,
John changed it lickity split and off home to see our kitties!

Iceland is becoming a hotspot for tourism, we were around so many
people there on vacation, most of them Americans, that it didn't feel
like we were on vacation most of the time. We're happy we went now
before the tourism really booms, when we could enjoy this incredibly
beautiful and unique land!
