Road to Akureyri
Sunday August 10
So it rained Saturday night. The tent did what it does. Not that I'm not impressed by the micro-climate created in such a small area, but waking up with my hair soaked and the risk of getting all my stuff wet isn't fun. I packed up the tent and headed to the gas station to catch the bus to Akureyri around noon. I met a German school teacher who was also going to take the bus. He had been biking around Iceland, but tweaked his knee and was now playing catch up via the bus to meet his buddy who was still biking. The bus trip took 2 hours and once again passed through crazy awesome mountain sites. We rolled into Akureyri at about 2:30 and I made my way to another campground. I set up house and then went to explore. First Stop: Botanical Garden. What can I say, they are free to go to, and usually pretty impressive. I have to say this one was the best I have ever seen. So that is a first place out of 3. After that I headed to the harbour and wandered some streets. That brings me to now,

as I sit down for my first truly Icelandic meal. An Italian B.M.T on Parmesan Oregano bread. You all don't know what you are missing. I can only hope they bring these to Canada one day. My stop here is Akureyri will be just one night, and tomorrow morning I catch the bus again to another small village called Rekyalid. It's near a lake called Myvatn which is a highlight of the area. Looking forward to laying in some hot springs again. And just before you all think I have it easy, the temperature didn't peak above about 6 degrees today. So there.... ( I am writing these in advance and saving them as internet is harder to come by in Northern Iceland)

Cool pics and crazy street names Josh. If those Icelander's don't wow visitors with that dramatic scenery, they've got to impress everyone when they can actually pronounce a street or town name. or is that just Icelandic for "Main Street and 1st Ave"? Madness. Keep having a good time and stay dry, Sam.
