We strolled around the interesting town of Eger seeing as we progressed the monumental 19th century cathedral; the lyceum (now a teacher training college) where we had a demonstration of a camera obscurer in the observatory giving a bird’s eye views of the whole town; the castle which defended many Turkish attacks during the 14th century before it finally fell; a lone minaret from the time of the Turkish occupation; the Baroque Minorite Church; action-packed statues of the battles to defend the castle.

The evening was spent drinking excellent Bulls Blood on a wine cellar crawl, firstly to the camp site’s establishment and then to three more recommended by the Rough Guide.
