The train from Vienna took roughly 3 1/2 hours to arrive in Keleti in Budapest, I was not paying attention i almost got off at the train stop before it, Kalenoid or something, the thing about trains here is they dont announce where and when you arrive in stops, you have to always pay attention which is not me. Got off and went to info desk cause I cant find the underground metro, turns out you have to go outside and its in the corner, found it bought the ticket stub and off i go, this is probably the easiest direction I ever had on finding a hostel, very straight forward, I am staying at Caminito Hostel which is pretty central next to every amenities you could ever want or think, owned by an Argentinian Alex, very nice and helpful guy. Chilled out that night and went to bed early, those late nights in Vienna and booze caught up with me, had trouble sleeping though as people keep coming in and out of the room and noisy in the living room, even when ther is a sign that says quiet time by 10pm, Alex is gone by then so no one
to control them.
The next morning got up late and hurriedly prepare myself for a full day of walking the city of Budapest. Erzsebet bridge I think it is called, in front of it on the other side is a monument then to the left is the trail to hike up the Citadella, at the top of it there is a museum about how this citadel was used during the WWII, quite interesting especially for me who hates museums. From there walked towards the Buda castle complex thingo, lots of museum and attractions within this walled up city then slowly made my way back to the other side via another bridge, this is not the chain bridge, cant remember the name, long walk as i try to get closer to the massive parliament building you are not allowed to get any closer so just took photos then made my way to the pedestrian streets, passed by St. Stepehen's church and other sites cant remember them all, just enjoy the pictures. near the St. Stephens church found a really good Chinese restaurant and quite cheap $3 to 4 of heapsful serving of anything, the duck and veggie with rice is
absolute must, delicious. The walked around town again till sun down then made my way back to hostel.
Chatted with the friendly German dudes till late and then off to bed not before a group of noisy young American girls arrived, sleeping in our dorm, they drove me nuts, no regard for other people, chatted till the wee hours of the morning and woke us up as well early the next day. i just want to slap them. Thank god they checked out the next day.
Another long day for me, walked the long stretch of Andrassy ut. lots of tourists everywhere. At the end of it there is a monument really nice dont know what it is called, then walked the park and found the Szechenyi thermal baths, i contemplated going there but I was sweaty from walking and could not be bothered swimming in hot water. from there made my way back to St. Stephens where there is a band playing beatles music and people are dancing and enjoying the free entertainment. Ate at the Chinese place again then walked to the Central market, as expected i got confused and got lost heaps, darn it where is Craig
when you need him, but found my way eventually but the central market is already closed and found tourists peering thorugh windows and taking photos of what they can see. i planned on crossing the bridge after Í walked on almost a dozen pedestrian lanes full of restaurants but the bridge is closed for renovation i think it is called Szabadsag. found another pedestrian lane and walked it until i get to the hostel, nice weather so lots of people walking about everywhere.
Went back to the hostel to chill at 5pm, quite tired from constant walking and have to be ready for the midnight train to Belgrade departing at 11:30ish pm from Keleti. Went to the Match grocery but it was closed at 7pm so walked around trying to find a place to eat found burger king and settled for some chicken wings, then exchanged all of my dibdobs to Euros, tried to change to Serbian currency but no one would do it! Chill at the hostel around 9pm left and took the underground to the train station, next you hear from me is in Serbia. Budapest is quite nice, i am just an accidental tourist here as I
never planned to stop here but no choice, but quite enjoyed my time here.
Before I left a group of Aussies just checked in to the hostel and they came from Tatras in Slovakia we chatted for a bit and they have a nice weather hiking Smokovec and the likes and was a bit warm as well they said, when I was there i was freezing my ass off.
