After arriving in Bratislava i noticed the bus to Vienna is about to leave i double checked with our driver and he told me to hurry so i did not have a chance to call my cousins in Vienna. The trip is only 6 something euros 1 1/2 hours we were dropped at Sudbanhoff but for some reason i was thinking i was at Erdbergstrasse the other drop off point, cant find a phone booth, walked far found one near the U but it keeps eating up my euros ! So i asked a kebab shop where i can make a call, they have call shops here so I went and finally I was able to contact my cousin and she told me to take the U and meet them at Stephanplatz. Havent a clue how to use their metro bought a ticket then down at the platform an info guy helped me figure out where to go. Made it to the stop went up but an hour later no one showed up so have to figure out what to do next, the Indian guy selling newspapers told me he sells phone cards, bought one but could not figure out how
to use it, its all in German. Then later he had me use his cell phone! i could have just do that and not pay for the card. Anyway found my cousin Andy and we took the train to their place. A very nice neighborhood, last stop on the train. Havent seen them in years so quite glad to be here. Lots of chit chat, catching up and afew beers later its 3am so off to bed.
The next day is gloomy but no rain, my cousin Andy offered to show me around before work so we went to town beginning at the Stephan church and to most of the sights including the 2 Hapsburg palaces. Lots of parks here but the weather is crap so I asked to be taken back after lunch at a Chinese restaurant then just chilled out. Me and my cousin Lilibeth would talk for hours catching up and it will be past midnight when we sleep so my day usually starts at 10am at the very least.
My cousin Maribeth has a house in the suburbs apart from their apartment in town, so i am going with them for the weekend, but
first more sightseeing with Andy but it was spitting so not fun at all so he dropped me off at Maribeth's. Met her husband and kids all grown up. More catching up to do, they are actually in a nice area next to the famous schnitzel restaurants in Vienna. We went around the ring that surrounds the city in the car to get by bearings, Vienna is a gorgeous city dont mind staying here a bit more. Their house in the burbs is big my cousin's husband built it with his own hands apart from occasional help from friends. Gorgeous house, we drank lots of good heineken beers from the Czech republic, got really drank slept so well at 3am.
Maribeth was not happy we stayed late drinking as we have a big day today, got a huge breakfast then drove back to the city which is only about 45 minutes away. we went up this hill where you can see the whole city and the Danube. i saw this awesome structure and they said it is the city incinerator, garbage that is, the energy from it used to power the city, well some of it maybe. Stopped near
VIENNA
GONZALEZ AFTER WINNING HIS MATCH it and took pics, looks like an abstract. From there we went back to town and we walked towards the Albertina museum, nice sunny weather so all the tourists are out. I wanted to see the Impressionist exhibit starring Van Gogh, am a big fan. Long lines. Excellent exhibit but i bet the one in Amsterdam will be better if I make it there.
Stopped at the house of that guy who made the incinerator art thingo, cant remember a thing aboutthe names of these landmarks, getting worse as i travel from city to city.back at their house we had a look at most of my Africa phots from the storage device then off to bed.
Plan today is to see the cave where planes were built during the WWII. Up in the mountains just outside Vienna, it was cold inside and damp, at the end there was a boat ride inside the cave, a nice boat was left there after the 3 musketeers movie was shot there.Had lunch at this place Asian on the run or something, where you pick plates from a conveyor in the middle, i got dizzy eyeing it, you pick your food and
put it on your table and get some more if you want. Quite cool just like the Japanese sushi places I see on TV. My cousin Elizabeth arrived from the Philippines today so we head to her apartment, lots of catching up again and off i went with Lilibeth again their house is a better place to take trains to town.
The next morning I went to town with Andy to Sudbanhoff and sort out bus or train tickets for Budapest. We got train schedule informations but the bus I did not as it has to be at Erdbergstrasse. Anyway decided to have a walk around town as it is a nice day, got lost heaps but did not mind i saw more in the process, met Lilibeth and my niece Yaya at KFC for dinner. Train here is expensive and no one checks the ticket so if youre willing to risk it you can use the U without buying one but if caught you pay around 60 euros.
On my last day in Vienna i went to see the ATP tournament here at Wiener Stadthalle, good way to spend your day, 7 hours of tennis! Then got
lost going back to mxy cousin's house, took the trolley but was in lala land and missed my stop so have to go back again. Off to Budapest tomorrow.
