We never planned on visiting Crete this time, but our week there was great. We began with Sitia, in the northeast. This was a quiet little seaside village with few tourists and a very nice sandy beach. Nearby, at Vai Beach, was a natural palm forest which is unique to the Greek Islands. This is a black sand beach on the east side of the island. It is where we always stay.

This is our friend Irini. She owns Irini's Restaurant on Kamari Beach. She has been there every night, every time we have gone to Kamari for the past 15 years. She's such a dear!!

The famous white pelican, Petros, has the locals and the tourists trained to turn the water on for him so he can bathe and get a drink.

As always...lovely
I really liked the videos of the market...and sooooooo wanted some of those olives! The ferry was a noisy one :) The photos of Mykonos were just lovely and I thrilled to see the dolphin mosaic wall in the Queens rooms, as I included dolphin fabric in my "Greek" block to the May Block Queen :) Looking forward to your being stateside again so we can catch up on the phone!
