Ann, Donna and Susan In Potsdam Day 11 - Sunday in Germany I see it’s Spring now and the weather so far has been awesome. I hear it’s very warm in Des Moines. But 45-50 degrees so far is what we expected here. The weather is now turning just as Carole is leaving. Thanks Carole!
I got up at 3:30 am to see Carole, Marti and Cate off to the airport and went back to bed. That was a mistake. I fell asleep for 3 hours and felt awful. Good thing I was already packed.
Ate the last of our fabulous breakfast and let me tell you our breakfast at the Berlin Ramada hotel has been FANTASTIC! The breads and croissants are to die for. The bacon and eggs are like ours and the juice and coffee, very tasty. I hate to leave this hotel, but off we must.
We left at 9:30 am and our drive was short. We stopped in Postsdam, Germany. Longstory short here, at Cecilienhof Palace in the Summer of 1945, the Allied powers met as a result of the surrender of Hitler. Present at the Potsdam Conference were Churchill, Wilson and Stalin. We did not get to see

New Palace, On The West Side of Sans Souci Park the table where they met. We were able to , but we got to see the palace grounds. Wow, Potsdam has several palaces that you need to check out-
.
Our last stop for the day, Leipzig Germany. Why Leipzig? Well, to tour the BMW factory of course. This story is very short. Our professor, Dr. Meyer, is a lover of BMWs. And since he is our VIP, he gets to choose where he wants to go. So here we are and what a beautiful city. More than we thought.
First, our hotel is beautiful and conveniently located in the city center. This town reminds me of Frieburg. Trains, trams and buses. So what is this town known for? Many things as I found out. The train station here is the largest in Europe. And from our walkabout inside the station, I can see why. Not only trains, three stories of shopping. Thank goodness it’s Sunday night and all the stores are closed.
After a quick change, in the lobby in 15 minutes. We have a small group, Donna, Susan and me. We walked to the city center and saw some beautiful churches, practically a church in St Thomas
St Thomas Church built in 1212, Johann Sebastian Bach worked as a cantor in 1723 every corner. But the most famous church we came upon was St. Thomas Lutheran, where Johann Sebastian Bach worked as a cantor. There was a service in progress, so we stepped in for 10 minutes. I can say I went to Sunday service in London and in Leipzig.
The walk around town was beautiful. A mix of old and new. We ate at a nice restaurant where we ran into Todd, Sarah and Bill. I ordered Lasagna; Susan and Donna had another type of pasta. Susan was the only one having dessert. I bought a chocolate cake from a bakery to take back to the hotel. The night was fun. My camera does not work so good at night, operator error, so I'll be back in the morning.
Tomorrow, before we head off, I'll take an early walk to see the city square in the daylight.
For those of you who have traveled with the Drakesmart group, you would of liked this city. Now off to the BMW plant!
LongStory Short,
Ann
