Welcome to the doghouse So I learned that being a “cute” girl in Deutschland has its advantages and disadvantages. Disadvantages in that I can’t go into certain places without getting a bit of a threat in a negative direction. You know, the hole in the wall places that the locals frequent that I seem to love oh so much. Nein. Skinheads. Tables being thrown. Ms. Elizalady’s life in danger “this is your last chance to live.” Yikes. Ok so I suppose I will stray from those places for the time being. Because I don’t want “you will cry. You will scream but I won’t be able to protect you.” The advantages came today when I ran into two fellas from the states that were Mormons. I couldn’t find anyone when I went to the dorms and was fresh out of food at the homestead. Zo I decided to go back to my neck of the woods and get a döner at a little place that seems to be open 24/7. That is very very rare here and those kinds of places are a little more expensive. At any rate, so as I get off the tram
to go to this place two fellas approach me blah blah blahing in their Deutschland banter. I say, “I only speak English.” And they get excited cause they are form the states. Blah blah blah I stop them and say that I want to get food and invite them to come chitter chatter if they really want to because as I would normally blow preachy Mormons off it was nice to have the company of people who spoke English. It was nice because they knew the owner of the place I was going to eat and were chatting it up. Apparently the one guy that was the Mormon crazy head told me, after I asked how to approach eating this crazy thing, that the owner fella who had made it made it much larger than normal because he, “thought I was cute.” Rock on. I will take more food bits for a thought. It was funny because I sat and talked with these fellas for about 15 minutes and one of the fellas working there came out and brought us all apfeltee which was super green and chatted a bit. So the funny part is that they never got a chance to talk their banter before they had to leave. I think the only thing they got out was “Do you believe in God?” We talked about school stuff, Dresden stuff and things and assorted nothings. The one guy working there kept trying to talk to me nut didn’t speak any English. It was fun trying to figure each other out. I did get that he said it is easy to find a girlfriend but hard to keep one. At that point I was like mmmhhhhmmm I am taken. Everyone there was super nice though and it is so close to where I live I may just become a regular
Saturday I went to Felsenburg Neurathen which had a medieval fort that was kinda hidden in rocks and what not. There were a ton of trees around and it was very beautiful. We had to hike up and it was super fun. There was a lot of history to the place and I took some beautiful pictures.
Then I went to Festung Königsten which was a medieval fortress when a king resided. It was very beautiful and there was a metal festival that was being set up in the middle. It was very interesting. I will have to put up pics because I can’t really describe it. It was like nothing I ever even expected. The pictures more than likely won’t do it justice. I found out too that Germany is one of the number one places on conservation. If they cut down forest for resources they immediately replant and reforest the area. We could learn something from them….a lil’ bit! It was phenomenally beautiful though. I like the outdoors though so for me it was wunderbar!
A couple of us went to get food bits after we got back to Dresden and the place we went to set up outside. It was a little cold so I wasn’t all about it but whateva. It started to sprinkle a bit so we decided to just go inside and sit down. There were tables that had reservation plates on them but it had been a while and we were almost done anyway. Not even 2 minutes after we went in there was crazy crazy hurricane like weather that came through. It only lasted like five minutes but was bad enough to knock almost everything over, even very heavy plants. One of the fellas that were eating with us helped out and the workers decided to give us all a round of free drinks. That was nice. I ate soooo much though. I don’t get to eat too often because I am running around so much but when I do I get a meal and eat every last bit. The meals here are large. I think that Mozart’s has it dead on. I am glad I got a chance to go there before I left. It was scary to even go there but after only a week I have a good grasp on what is what. I look German writing sometimes und it doesn’t even seem foreign, even though I can’t understand most of it. I can understand the gist of what people are saying when they talk to me know I just can’t respond back. It is phenomenal how fast you learn. If I was trying to learn in the states it would be 2 years and I still wouldn’t be able to speak effectively. I learned too that the way language is taught is basically crap. One of my classes is how to teach basically and it is phenomenal what I have learned in only two classes.
“Don’t you worry about tomorrow. It will be alright…I’m right by your side.”
