Machiatto anyone? Hallo Freunde!
We both woke today feeling more like ourselves! So we headed down to enjoy some breakfast before we started our day. After getting a blank stare when I ordered a vanilla latte (I even dropped the "skinny part") I settled on the machiatto she offered. Which by the way was way yummy & tomorrow at breakfast I will be ordering my machiatto the german way....machiatto danke schön! Oh and for the record I have seen three Starbucks while I have been here, maybe they really are taking over the world one mocha at a time!
After breakfast we bought tickets for the tram and waited, and waited and waited some more for a tram that was supposed to come every 20 minutes! We finally located a local that spoke broken English and she explained to us that the delay was a accident that occured just down the way, we actually had seen the the ambulances & Polizei goe screaming by! She was incredibly helpful and explained to us how to read the Stadibahn map. The accident must have been cleaned up because the tram was there within minutes of speaking to her!

Got Ice?? really hard to put into words just how beaufitul it was! We tried to capture a few pictures but I'm afraid we did not do it justice. We decided to climb the 509 steps it was going to take to get to the top of the Bell Tower! I think Rob may have thought I was trying to kill him at one point. I reminded him that I was actually helping him "train" for the world cup by working on his his endurance for the tournament! By the time we got to the top, every step was well worth is as you can probably tell by the pictures! What an amazing view of the entire City of Cologne. It really made an impact on Rob standing in a church that dated back to 1200's. For a California boy that's never been to Europe I think the level of history here really moved him. We also got to see the Geo Crucifix dated 976AD and is the oldest remaining crucifix in the Western World!
We grabbed dinner at a cute local cafe that was in the square next to the cathedral. Rob was thrilled to get ice cubes in his
drink tonight, he thinks the whole no ice thing is a bit strange. I've been sampling the local Reisling wines but I have yet to give a local beer a try. Hmm guess I know whats on my "must do list" tomorrow!
Once back at the hotel, the entire Gold Rush team had arrived and had an impromtu team meeting to "talk strategy". One Gold Rush player, who will remain nameless was absolutely thrilled to walk into the lobby of a hotel across the world from his home and see himself on a displayed publicity photo for the event. I finally got to meet the Barbados Team tonight, the The Flyin' Fish. Rumor has it that the winning team choses the location of the next Woz Cup....and, I say this with complete devotion to the Gold Rush & in good fun...."Come On Barbados"! Tomorrow I'm going to jump on the train and do some shopping in downtown near the cathedral while Rob has practice. Tomorrow night the entire event opens with a segway "ride" to Hard Rock Cafe for a dinner & the match schedule will be announced there.
Well its well past my bedtime so its time
to say....Gute Nacht.
Beifall!

Fabulous! I love reading your updates, it's like I'm there with you but with a slight time delay. :-) The no-ice thing is totally European - it was that way all over France, too. :-) Julie
