In January 2006 we decided to take a trip to Berlin. Here the idea rose of not having ourselves on the picture all the time but to adopt a small green creature named Kermit! We adopted him at the shopping center of Potsdamer Platz the first day we were there. We wanted to explore the city a bit and go clubbing!
Friday 20th of January
Our trip started disastrous as we were to fly from Maastricht-Aachen Airport in the south of Holland. Upon arrival we heard the news our flight was canceled. Easyjet re-booked us for the next morning and we got to Berlin around noon. We headed for our Bed & Breakfast but had to pick up the keys first at the owners workplace. He works at the leather and fetish shop Mr. B. We then went to our place and and settled. After relaxing we went into town for some shopping.
Saturday 21st of January
The U-Bahn took us to Potsdamer Platz where we had lunch at Balzac's and then went for shopping. It was more windowlicking what we did since we didn't buy that much. We spent almost 2 hours in a CD-shop as
Kermit phones home
Don't you just love the pink telephones! we both love music and were checking the cd-collections available. After listening to a bunch of cd's we both bought some and headed to the supermarket to get some food!
On our way out of the shopping center we came across a Kermit-shelter where we saw him staring at us with his big black eyes. Immediately we were caught by both his beautiful appearance and his sad looks that we decided to take him with us . From now on Kermit was going to join us everywhere.
We headed back to our B&B to freshen up and listen to some music. We immediately got into the mood to go out at night as we had our recently bought Paul van Dyk cd on. What also helped us to get into the mood was the bottle of Gin that we had bought at the supermarket. We put our fancy clothes on and headed for the bars.
First we had to eat something and went to a Korean restaurant nearby. For both of us it was the first time we ate korean and we had an excellent meal. So after we were done we went for the bars. It
Kermit loves Gin
Before going to the club we had a couple of drinks to get into the mood. was very cold when we were looking for a bar where there was a crowd. This was actually quite difficult as most bars were behind closed doors and you couldn't look through the windows. Finally we found one called Prinzenknecht that looked very busy, we decided to go inside. The music was great but soon we found out that we were in a leather with lots of shaved heads and bears.
While Kermit was safe and sound in our B&B we were having our well deserved Gin & Tonics. Then one friend that lives in Berlin called and invited us to go to his appartment in Prenzlauerberg. We went there before going to Berghain, the coolest club in town. At Laurents place we skulled a couple of Gins more and went all together to the club. Outside there was a snow storm, we were freezing our balls off. Finally we got passed the scariest doorman ever and we were in ready to party. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take our cameras inside with us so no pictures from inside the club.
Here we danced the night away, got drunk, enjoyed the excellent techno and wathced the beautiful men. At

We finally arrived at Berlin-Schoenefeld 6.30 we were done with the fun and went outside to catch a cab. On our way out we saw a huge queue and we were told by the lady at the door that we could go on for another 12 hours if we wanted since the club would be open till 6 in the afternoon. We took a cab, ate a Burek and went to bed.
Sunday 22nd of January
Next morning we couldn't open our eyes, we had a huge hangover but were brave enough to face the consequences, get up, shower and get ready for some sightseeing. First we had a bloody expensive cappuccino at an expensive "wannabe" café. Luckily we weren't the ones attacked by the waitress with a cup of hot milk. Next up we visited the Brandenburger Tor, Reichstag and Jewish Monument. By this time it was so fucking cold that we had to run for shelter to get our asses warmed up so we could continue our tour with Kermit. By this time Kermit was starting to look a bit pale. A couple of Balzac's later (check them out when you are there) we went to Checkpoint Charlie and had the
Nelson and Peter @ Potsdamer Platz
Having fun during our shopping spree. usual Kodak moments with Kermit in the spotlight. After that we went to the disappointing remains of the Berlin Wall. Don't buy a piece because it will cost you a fortune for just one inch, we all know that there are cheaper things sold by the inch ;-)
After defrosting at the B&B, dancing around the room to Paul van Dyk, changing clothes a million times and asking for eachothers opinion we went looking for a restaurant. Eventually we ate at Que Pasa, a Spanish restaurant with Portuguese staff. The owner was telling us that this was the coldest winter since the 80's and that temperatures of -20 degrees Celcius were being expected.
We decided to check out one of those behind closed doors bars and ended up in Tom's bar but Tom wasn't there....neither many other customers as it was nearly empty. We emptied our bottles of beer, went to the U-bahn and headed for Café Moskau where GMF was being held. Here there were 2 floors, one with Barbie Breakdown behind the wheels of steel and one with some really good DJ's. Again we got drunk, danced, flirted (mainly with ourselves) and chatted to some people.
No gossiping allowed!!
Only the Dutch will get this one! On our way home we nearly died as it was -12 already and temperatures were dropping by the minute.
Monday 23rd of January
We got up hungover again. With empty stomachs we went to Kurfurstendamm. Here we had sandwiches in front of KaDeWe and then went in for shopping. That day it was -20 degrees Celcius and you couldn't walk outside for more than 15 minutes without having bodyparts freezing off. On our way back our travelcards had already expired but since we hadn't been checked a single time that weekend we decided to take the risk and not buy a new one. Ofcourse we shouldn't have done that as we got caught one stop before our station. They wanted our passports, we didn't give them, they wanted money we didn't give it either, they wanted our address, we gave them a fake one! They believed us since we look so innocent and untill today they are still waiting for their money.
It was so cold that Peter was tearing apart. His spontaneaous bleeding led to a bloody Whopper, and it wasn't ketchup, it was real blood. The cold dried us out and we got sore
Don't we look nice enough to enter the club?
...or did we take this picture after clubbing? We can't remember! hands. After all this drama we were ready to take off but SleazyJet wasn't so after a small delay we finally headed towards Maastricht-Aachen Airport. We landed safely, got our bags and went to the train station. Thank god we were right on time to catch the last train to Amsterdam.
This was the end of a great cold weekend in Berlin!
