sooooo its been ages mostly due to super expensive scandi, we'll do our best to give a brief overview of the last few weeks, but please forgive our travel weary memories! we are IN berlin, but are just going to catchup on the rest of scandi before we head off to prague tonight. will get the next instalment asap though, and fix this up some photos!
stockholm got pretty and sunny before we left for oskarshamn, were we visited the 'stunning oases' (which actually turned out to be a couple of rocks in a harbour- emma and roz were very impressed with our two hour trek along the highway....it was isabs croke park blunder). not a lot else to say about oskarshamn. next stop was gothenburg, we arrived via an overnight bus and nearly died the next day (again thanks isab) (again thanks for organising everything I MAKE MISTAKES SOMETIMES SHUTUP). gothenburg was pretty though, with a big market and riverside park thing. not heaps to say about the town but another great couchsurfing experience. we stayed with a lovely couple, who attempted to teach emma to cook.
country number seven and officially the most stunningly beautiful place in
the world : norway. arrived in oslo with no accomodation planned as usual but the day was saved by a very lovely receptionist (deb we gave her one of your koalas she loved it!) and our hostel was great, surrounded by miles of grass and with a pretty view of oslo fjord. when we got in we had to catchup on numerous weeks' washing; they were quite shocked when we asked for three loads! in oslo we saw ruins of ancient buildings, a fortress, climbed the opera house, visited medievil town, more markets, etc. oslo is a very, very nice city, all mountainous and green AND by the water. yay!
after two nights we took an amazing train ride through the country across to bergen. the train passed through snow capped mountains and down forrested valleys IT WAS TOTALLY GREAT. Bergen rains approximately 280 days a year so we werent too surprised that it was pouring on arrival, by the time we got to our campsite at middnight, with our bags drenched we were a bit adventured-out. however in the morning we awoke to the breathtaking scenery we hadnt been able to see through the pelting night rain, we
were staying in a cabin in a camping site 20km out of town. the site was by a lake with mountains all around, very serene and definately worth the half hour trip each way! bergen itself surprised us the next two days with a few rays of sun, it is a cute little harbour city. visited the fish markets and the old town of bryggen. we were super-excited to discover neil young was in town! haha it was apparently the most exciting thing ever to happen to bergen, and we had to spend the afternoon dodging fake t shirt peddlars! the only downfall of living half an hour out of town occured during our dramatic entrance to the ferry to denmark - we had to swap busses and 'run' (waddle) through the streets with all our packs, literally boarded just as the boat was departing (customs already knew who we were! the staff laughed as we struggled, out of breath to the check in point). we have never felt like bigger tossers, it was hilarious! also hilariously painful.
the 19 hour ferry ride started out great when we found a secluded table with the only tv in the ferry!
we had a great window spot as well, and sat out harry potter, ice age AND ratatouille! but was not so fun when emma & isab suffered mildly intense seasickness and had a good sulk. not being able to walk down a corridoor as the boat lurches through the waves is only funny for about one hour of nineteen. we arrived in denmark in the super-happening town of hanstholm; number one party town! well we were there for about ten minutes to withdraw danish kronas, having seen all there was to see we boarded a bus to some other unknown danish towns. had originally planned to stay in a place called 'viborg', but after we pulled in hastily changed our plans to include a city with actual shops. sorry denmark, you didnt make the best first impression! that night we ended up staying in arhus, which at the time we liked but talking about it now cant think of anything particularly memorable to report.
wandering arhus the next day and trying to decide how to spend our remaining time in denmark we settled on the most reasonable and level headed option- a spontaneous trip to legoland! while we wouldnt
recommend making this decision at 4pm and having to stay in the most expensive camping ground EVER, we had an absolute ball and legoland is not to be missed! even worth the next three nights dinner of cheese and crackers! (not counting rozzies stolen buffet :D she is so great at being sneaky!). to be honest we could probably write a whole blog just about legoland, so here are the highlights: entire recontructed cities of lego, there was bergen, amsterdam, stockholm, hollywood etc; a 'working' NASA space station and airport; solar powered lego boats and cars; life size safari animals; some rides (most of them were kiddies only, we tried to squish on some anyway, emma has impressive bruises), an aquarium; and reconstructed soccer stadium, shopping centres, statue of liberty, etc. some of the displays were made of literally millions of lego blocks. humans are amazing!
after the blowout that was billund, we were disappointed in the mega expensive city of copenhagen! not in the actual city itself really, which is full of big wide streets and MASSIVE classic buildings and lots of windy streets. disappointed we didnt run into 'our mary', but we did visit the museum of
danish resistance and national museum and had a nice night talking with our roomies from all over the globe. nearly out of time so are off to buy some nacho ingredients to get ready for a big night bussing it down to check-check-check-check-checkoslavakia! (ahem). thanks for all the comments last time btw 😊 they make us very happy! also alfie is working again so we are super contactable!

Ha!! "Secrecy" not so surprising on Roz's part (we do share some genes, after all)! Volunteered at the International Mental Health Conference today and brought back a gazillion stress balls (well, almost - one for each family member, anyway, so close enough to a gazillion!)! Wow, again!! You guys are gonna keep extending my dreams further. They're getting a bit cramped up there in my head, though, with all the uni stuff and work placement bits I have going at the moment! I'm probably meant to keep these "comments" short and sweet (unlike the essay I just handed in at three-times the limit - oh oh!) so will just say that all is well here in Melbourne with a long-awaited taste of Spring! Sun - YAY!!! Take care, as I know you must do anyway (make sure you get to all the taste-tester stands to make the most of freebies!) Love ya lots (Roz) and keep smiling in all those pics! xox
