So Oktoberfest was so much fun. I loved it there. we started out with a group of 11
people and quickly realized that we wouldn't be able to stick together so we broke
into 2 smaller groups and that was still too many people to find a seat anywhere. By the
time we got there the beer tents were closed to people without reservations but we
could sit in the beer gardens around the outside of the tents so we eventually found
a spot and sat with this group of French people about our age and an Australian
family. It was kind of funny because I could talk to the French people in French to some
degree and I could also talk to our waiter in German. I found out that I apparently am
pretty conversational in German because I could successfully carry on a conversation in
German with people and understand what they said back even with the quick speed
they spoke at. This came in very handy because we eventually left the beer garden
to go check into the hotel and our hotel was impossible to find because in Munich the
streets change names every 2 blocks. I had

to ask at least 6 different people and 2
different police officers before we finally found the place. after we found it we went up
to our room to get settled and then me and my friend Maria went out again and just
walked around the main square of the town because the lady at the hotel told me
that there were some good bars around there and plus we wanted to see the town square
too. the cool thing was that around the town square I still remembered where some
cool places to see were and I even remembered how to get to the actual Hofbräuhaus
even though its not easy to find. So we went in there and Maria and I bought a beer
and a big pretzel and then these people sat down next to us so I started talking to
them and apparently they're from Barrington....small world huh. So we ended up
hanging out with them until we got kicked out of the Hofbräuhaus because it closed
and then they invited us to go accross the street to the Hard Rock Cafe since that
stayed open for another 3 hours. We stayed there till it closed too and then went
back to our hotel room. The next morning we got up and left our room by 830 so that we
could try to get into an actual tent when they opened at 10 instead of just being at
the beer garden. We got into the Hippodrom tent which is supposed to be a fun one for
younger people. We ended up taking up the whole table except for this German
couple from Cologne that sat next to me and I pretty much talked to them the whole
time completely in German. We ended up getting kicked out of the Hippodrom after
about 5 hours because they don't let you stay any longer than that. So after that we
just walked around Munich and eventually went to the airport and came home. The
only problem once I got back to France was that seriously from just that one weekend of speaking all that
German, I was in complete German mode and kept wanting to speak in German here
instead of French....luckily after a couple days I got back in French mode, but not without my fair share of almost saying "Danke" instead of "Merci."
